“We’re the No. 1 Threat to Women!” The feminist comedy of Louis C.K.

Last edited Wed Apr 17, 2013, 06:14 AM - Edit history (1)

His new stand-up special, Oh My God, premiered on HBO over the weekend. It includes a bit that seems to have been inspired by the reading and thinking C.K. said he did after the Tosh kerfuffle. “I’ve read some blogs during this whole thing that have made me enlightened to things I didn’t know,” he told Jon Stewart back then. “This woman said how rape is something that polices women’s lives … That’s part of me now that wasn’t before.” Halfway through the new special, C.K. starts talking about how dating is an act of bravery for all involved. “The male courage, traditionally speaking, is that he decided to ask” a woman out. (Note the careful caveat, “traditionally speaking.”) And if the woman says yes, “that’s her courage.” That kind of courage, he says, is beyond his imagining. “How do women still go out with guys, when you consider that there is no greater threat to women than men? We’re the number one threat to women! Globally and historically, we’re the number one cause of injury and mayhem to women.” A moment later he adds, speaking for all men, “You know what our number one threat is? Heart disease.”

I like Louis CK and I like that he thought and investigated further and learned about why the Tosh thing caused so much uproar (instead of going all knee-jerk defensive and making the people who were complaining automatically wrong).

It is really good to hear a comedian talking about this kind of stuff instead of just making continual fellatio and breast jokes like Ron White did the other night when I saw him. (I still like Ron White, sorta kinda, and I knew what to expect when I went to see him, but I am so over fellatio and breast jokes.)

Here's the whole article: The Feminist Comedy of Louis CK

I like Louis CK, my kids turned me on to him. There have been more than a few times I was disgusted by what he was saying so even though I like him and think him very funny I am tentative about watching some of his stuff. I saw this the other night. There were moments (Nixon) that I was doubled over in hysterics but when he came to this part I was simply amazed. He has a way about him, a way of making something out of the simplicities real life and being very profound about it but I never expected that segment of the show.

I have yet to read the article. I just wanted to stop in and comment since time is so short these days and this was something positive I think. I will bookmark and read it later but I thank you for that.

I like Ron White too and I have not the faintest clue why. I too am over those kinds of jokes. Still, I think the guy is so funny. Again, I really don't know why I like him.

He 'gets' it. He's not the only one - but it's nice that he has a platform to show he gets it - so maybe more men can get it!

I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to comedy, thinking it anemic and just slim pickin's, after the death of George Carlin. (Yes I know people like to use him as a shining example of 'free speech! Blah!-- but Carlin took NO prisoners, female or male; his experiments and philosophy with power of words taught me the power of words) just a desultory glance once in a while.

And I love comedy. It's been disheartening to see rehashed crap, with no social conscience or ironic commentary. Perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough, or giving today's comics enough of a chance. It's very good to see this.

Carlin quote: “Here's all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.”

Now while this isn't true, it's funny because it hits that dark since of irony that rests in my heart. Irony is funnier than cruelty, although it can be both.

Thanks for posting.

You write, "Here's the whole article: The Feminist Comedy of Louise CK".

His material was so insightful that Louis must really be Louise, a woman passing as a man?

I somehow ran across this on youtube..No, I really was NOT looking for it, but here it is.

Brace yourselves.

This is information on something called The Manhood Academy...It seeks to "rescue" and rehabilitate men from

Feminists who are, and I think I'm quoting "Destroying" them, lol.

9. LMAO... so they're rebranding 'picking up chicks' and 'dominating women' as 'social interaction'...

From their website which I will not link to:

Whether it's going on your first date, saving a troubled relationship, addressing your wife's 'bitch' behavior, making new friends, or standing up for yourself in this emasculating feminist environment, our goal is to teach you how to conduct satisfying social interactions.

Awww, isn't that cute

10. Nobody ever tries to dominate me

I must be doing 'woman' wrong. I'm not dominating; Mostly I call it honesty. A bitch is a breeding dog, and not a word we use in my potty-mouthed household.

My husband and I still hold hands and kiss in public, a bit more discreetly than when we were younger to be sure-- no one has yelled 'get a room' lately. He's been married to this "emasculating" feminist for 20 years this month. We've been together longer than that. He likes my assertiveness and he's assertive on his own.

If a man is threatened or feels" emasculated" by feminist women, the issues that need to be addressed don't arise from the feminist or feminist ideology.

11. Yep, those issues arise from the cult of masculinity.

'Emasculated' ... pfft ... just the word itself illustrates the complete and utter ridiculousness of the cult.

the basement. but, it is not. there was a study shown recently where these are grown men. we are seeing the grown men using sexism in every day life now. like they are so use to it on the net, they forget they can actually be called out on it.

really an interesting phenomenon.
