By David EdwardsTuesday, April 30, 2013 13:38 EDT
Former Bush senior adviser Karl Rove is warning President Barack Obama that he might have difficulty closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay because detainees imprisoned by the previous administration were not read their Miranda rights.
At a White House press conference on Tuesday, the president said that he would make another effort to close the detention center after it had been recently reported that prisoners there were waging hunger strikes and risking death due to the hopelessness of indefinite detention without trial.
It is not a surprise to me that we are having problems at Guantanamo, the president told reporters. I am going to reengage with Congress that this is not in the best interest of the American people.
Following Obamas press conference, Rove insisted to Fox News that the notion of trying enemy combatants in U.S. courts was unconventional because prison camps had been used during World War II.

They could still be held in a military brig in the U.S. and tried by Military Tribunal.

"We did not legally arrest the detainees, so we cannot release them. "
What an ass.

Karl Rove would have been read his Miranda rights quite some time ago...

language immediately to take care of Karl Rove's concerns.
All nine billion of them or whatever the number is now. Send copies for newborns until they are all delivered.
Followed by the final, forceful imposition of the American Constitution and Bill of Rights on every country on the globe.
Isn't that Karl Rove's definition of freedom and liberty?
USA! USA! USA!
BTW, open up the borders, end all national governments, and just let us rule the world while you're at it, Karl. Isn't that what invading another country 'just because' is about?
What a marvelous idea you have there, Karl. Works for me.

Bush and Cheney made a mountain of mess the minute they began constructing this alternative *legal* system following 9/11 and the Republicans- and some Democrats- are not working constructively (or at all) with President Obama to attempt to resolve the situation.

Failing that, they could be deported to the custody of their home countries. They, unlike the Boston bombers, actually are enemy combatants.
