Two people who were missing from the Bush Library Bash...Al Gore and Ralph Nader

I mean, come on, without those two, Bush never would have been president!

Had they been there, the lovefest might have been a little more subdued

... Indeed, Obama had kind words for the man many, including Salon columnist Joan Walsh, consider the worst president in modern American history. Obama found a lot to like in the man he often criticized when he first sought the presidency in 2008:

“We know President Bush the man," Obama said at the big wingding. "To know the man is to like the man. Because he’s comfortable in his own skin. He knows who he is. He doesn’t put on any pretenses. He takes the job seriously but he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s a good man.”

Good man or not, if the self-styled “war president” had wanted to show a little unexpected class, he would have invited former Vice President Al Gore, a Democrat who received more votes than Bush in the 2000 election only to have the US Supreme Court award the presidency to the Republican candidate after the fiasco in Florida. If Bush had any sense of gratitude, he should have invited Ralph Nader as well, since Nader’s presence on the Florida ballot made it possible for Bush to steal the 2000 election. After all, former Vice President Dick Cheney, a man former Colin Powell aide Lawrence Wilkerson has said fears being tried for war crimes, was not only allowed at the gala, he had a speaking role.

While all of the presidents and Cheney heaped praise on Bush, who grew misty-eyed during the day’s events, according to the L.A. Times, it’s unlikely Gore and Nader would have been so maudlin had they been at the party...
