(28,394 posts)Didn't cheney have to move back to Wyoming so he and bush wouldn't both be from Texas? I seem to remember that back behind the cobwebs that have formed since those god-awful days.

(6,496 posts)Mark my words, when you see Jeb move 'home' (Texas) the ticket is in the bag

(22,000 posts)I'm sure he has a house somewhere in Texas. If he did it the year before the election there wouldn't be much anyone could do. So, I agree it is possible.

(11,304 posts)NJ Gov/Robio or maybe Bush/Rand. But it doesn't matter I think a ticket like Clinton/O'Malley would be a great ticket.

(16,984 posts)...Christie/Rubio or Bush/Rand. At least at present Chris Christie would be considered too moderate for the national ticket, and Rand Paul too much of a character. They want the ticket to be photogenic in a game show host sort of way, and they'll need someone they believe will attract Latino voters.

(1,330 posts)It's the only ticket that makes any sense. Of course, I hope they go with something else.
Warpy
(111,222 posts)has kept a very low profile here in NM after her rough start in office, trying to pay the Koch boys back for the seat by issuing a fiat against all environmental regulations. She got slapped down very publicly by the courts and we've all heard few peeps out of her since then.
That doesn't mean she's any less crazy. She's still a teabagger. She's got her eye on a bigger prize, that's all.
Unfortunately, she will be re elected in 2014 since this state likes their politicians to do their jobs quietly and she's mostly done that. There are a couple of local papers raking her over the coals about her profligate spending on travel and some other spending irregularities, but I don't think that will get rid of her.

(4,056 posts)...and he chose himself. So I guess he'd plotted long before to insure he wasn't from the same state.
But he's good at the long game. He had wanted Halliburton in Iraq from 1998.

(31,961 posts)He waited until after he was chosen. He then established residency in WY. Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution just says they can't be of the same state at the time the electoral college meets in December following the election.

(4,056 posts)But must modify your statement to read: "He waited until after he chose himself."
I knew a Secret Service operative in 2002 who was dating my friend, and he gave me another insight into Cheney: Big Dick literally picked the entire cabinet for the first term. Bush wasn't even in the room.
Oh, dear! Are we at all surprised?"

(26 posts)It's not "not allowed" by the constitution. It's an electoral college restiriction.

(3,109 posts)is defined in the Constitution. Amendment's to the Constitution are part of the Constitution.

(10,000 posts)Rand Paul
Marco Rubio
Chris Christie
Jeb Bush
Bob McDonnell
I'd say this group has a 50% or better chance of running:
Bobby Jindal
Rick Perry
Mike Huckabee
This is a group of people who have a less than 50% chance of running, but who may get strong mention for Veep, or who may otherwise be influential in deciding on their nominee:
Dr. Ben Carson
Deb Fischer
Ted Cruz
Sarah Palin
Rick Santorum

I'd say he's not on the GOP radar...but I'll be shocked if the Lord doesn't tell him to run independent with a cross or chi rho 1 as his sigil. (He's nutty. I met him before. I even liked him on a personal level (but not his politics) and worked with him to strengthen animal-cruelty laws when I lived in PA...but he's exactly the sort that thinks God speaks to him and through him.)
1: The chi rho was the symbol Constantine saw in the clouds at the Milivan Bridge as he heard the voice of God tell him to march into battle under this symbol and claim Rome for Christianity.

(24,216 posts)I'm curious about Santorum because he's was the "2nd place " finisher to Mittens.
I cannot remember a GOP nominee field so wide open with potential candidates who did not run in the last cycle.
Usually the GOP goes with the guy whose turn it is and came in 2nd the last time.
This field of theirs full of 1st timers, wanna-be's and dark horses is just wacky.
I have no idea right now what they are going to do.

(10,000 posts)The traditional GOP nominates someone who isn't to the liking of the extreme wingnuts, and he ends up on a "Tea Party" ticket with someone like Sarah Palin or Ben Carson.
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)He may become the fundy Harold Stassen - a perpetual candidate who never wins.
Scott Walker and Paul Ryan are wild cards at this point. Both might run for President, but both might be equally likely to seek Senate seats or stay in their current jobs.

(2,097 posts)Jeb's got almost all the cred any GOPer is ever going to have with the Hispanic community; Rubio only adds to it incrementally, if at all. What he needs is cred with the batsh*t crazy wing of the party, and Rubio doen't get him that. Paul would, but I don't think Paul is stupid enough to ride the veep slot to obscurity. Plus, the GOP also has that pesky woman problem, which is hard but not impossible to deal with at teh same time as he deals with the crazy wing problem. So, if I had to bet, I'd bet a small amount on either Bush/Hawley or Bush/Ayotte.

(13,933 posts)I'm not sure who will be at the top of the ticket, but I'm betting the second slot will go to one of them.
I agree with you that the GOP will always find a way around the ruules when it suits them, but I don't see why Marco would be worth enough to Jeb to deal with the same state hassle.
