Pat Toomey Blames Obama For Failure Of Gun Bill
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) blamed President Barack Obama Tuesday for the defeat in the Senate of legislation to expand background checks.
"I would suggest the administration brought this on themselves," Toomey said in an interview with The Morning Call. "I think the president ran his re-election campaign in a divisive way. He divided Americans. He was using resentment of some Americans toward others to generate support for himself. That was very divisive, that has consequences, that lingers."
"I understand why people have some apprehension about this administration," he added. "I don't agree with the conclusion as it applies to my [background checks] amendment, but I understand where the emotion comes from."

(5,756 posts)filibustered and then voted "no." Because all the polls show americans are not divided on background checks.
How childish if the GOP voted "no" to spite the President rather than voting in the best interests of their constituents. If they can't remove egos from the way the legislate they need to find a new job.

(12,287 posts)before the re-election and get back to us. He didn't do anything to convince his fellow evangelical teabagger Senators. He didn't even talk to them about it I'll bet.
His area of Penn. is pro gun control and he was working on this just to look good in his state. But I don't think he wanted it to pass. Likely the same with Joe.

(14,558 posts)does the "media" let republican's constantly get away with this bullshit.
Everytime, without any exception, they blame the Barrack Obama for them being jackasses.
How hard can it be to simply say ...
"senator, are people in washington THAT brittle, that weak of spirit and character, that an election campaign keeps them from doing their jobs. They are elected representatives, they are hired to legislate and do what is right. What could anyone possibly do in an election campaign that would justify representives from doing what is in the best interests of their constituents. How can you in good faith lay the blame at the President's feet, one man, while absolving 50 other people? How can you not admonish them for being petty and not putting an election behind them and doing what is right?"
How fricken hard would that be?

(2,185 posts)God has a sense of humor: YOU are one of my senators,
despite the fact that I did NOT vote for you.
Nonetheless, you represent my state.
You owe us your service in representation..
You weren't elected to do, or say, your own damn thing.
When you took the risk of stepping out of the bunker called
the republican dogma, I wondered if there was hope for you.
Nah; you're going down in flames in the next election.
See ya!

Being called 'divisive' by a tea party-backed Republican is like being called a 'whore' by a prostitute.

Oh, I remember now it was the person WHO GOT 47% of the vote!
