Manchin: NRA Kept Background Checks Bill From Getting 70 Votes

Manchin Blames NRA For Background Checks Bill Failure

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Democratic sponsor of the defeated gun-control plan says it would have passed easily, if not for the National Rifle Association.

Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia says there would have been 70 votes for the plan to expand background checks for gun buyers. But the NRA said it would include the gun vote on report cards that show whether candidates support gun rights.

The Senate on Wednesday rejected the background check bill Manchin wrote with Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Patrick Toomey.

Manchin says he also lost votes because some senators who may vote for gay rights or an immigration bill wanted to show they are still conservative.

Does create an interesting aspect about democrat joe manchin from west virginia, regarding what grades he might get next from the nra, as well as what grade he might get from mayor bloomburgs newly created 'politician grades' similar to nras, in a parallel universe.

I predict Manchin will get a C from MAIG (bloomburgs mayors against illegal guns).
I predict Manchin will get a C from nra (nutty rightwingers, armed).
... discrepancy, imo, could be a plus or minus to the C (ie C+ or C-).
Neither side can give him an 'A'; if the nra were to do so it would signal to other progun congressmen that nra's afterswing doesn't bite much. B- is a possibility tho.
MAIG deserves to give manchin a D or D+, due manchin's past support of nra & opposition to guncontrol, but a D would still be demeaning to manchin and thus MAIG will 'reward' manchin with a C, or C+, for this year at least.
Toomey will get a tad lower grade than manchin, or the same, perhaps a C- to joe's C.

Irony if my prediction comes to pass, where both sides make joe manchin, just an average joe.
