Here is a list of useless Democrats...

voting against the Background check going forward. In other words voting for the filibuster...

From the Daily Kos:

Mark Pryor of Arkansas; Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota; Mark Begich of Alaska; and Max Baucus of Montana. Reid voted against for procedural reasons, so he can bring the proposla up in the future. Four Republicans who voted for: Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania; Mark Kirk of Illinois; Susan Collins of Maine; John McCain of Arizona.

Ayotte allows herself to be portrayed as relatively moderate, but she is anything but.

But I will give him credit for sticking his neck out on this bill. I know he will face some tough opposition in this pro-gun state.

but I always vote for him because I believe the Republicans running against him will be much worse. It's a "lesser evil" vote. I'm not proud of voting "lesser evil," but fuck, I certainly don't Republicans elected. Montana Dems have to be very pro-gun to win elections here. If they voted anything that even looked like gun control, they would most likely lose the next election.

-snip-

As under current law, transfers between family, friends, and neighbors do not require background checks. You can give or sell a gun to your brother, your neighbor, your coworker without a background check. You can post a gun for sale on the cork bulletin board at your church or your job without a background check.

Article here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022649387

So, folks could still privately sell their guns to ''... friends, family, and neighbors..." without background checks who may be felons and/or have mental issues.
And to folks at work and church that they might not even know.

That is a HUGE LOOPHOLE!

Having Democratic Senators from rural states is a HUGE deal. You really want them to sacrifice re-election from their constituents, who live in a completely different world than someone from New York or Detroit?

Despite the squeaky wheel on this board that is the extremist viewpoint of outlawing private gun ownership altogether, guns are not strictly a (D) or (R) issue. It is a rural/urban issue, a generational issue, and a culture issue.

Give me a Democrat who will keep his or her seat, instead of turning it over to some "legitimate rape" whacko any day.

We have strong momentum right now in civil rights. We have momentum in marijuana reform. We have SCOTUS appointments coming up.

Keep your eyes on the prize people. Background checks are necessary, and each state can implement them. They will eventually be national. But we need every person possible with a (D) next to their name in the next 4 years and beyond sitting in congress.

Just think about a (R) supermajority. Scary? Exactly.

80% of country supports this modest piece of legislation..
Its time that we all step up to the plate and stop worrying about political consequences.
We have been doing this for 35 years and all it has done is made things worse..

POTUS is nailing it right now..
You still wanna be on the wrong side?

a supporter of equality whose vote we need? He's going to support marijuana reform? Sorry, no sale here.
This notion that the very politicians who voted to prevent equality are the ones we need to attain equality is just flat out daft. Centrists in office vote for bullshit then we need to keep them so they can reverse their own actions?
I live in Oregon, very much not NYC. My Democratic Senators voted for this, in a mostly rural State with lots of guns in use. They are Senators, Democrats, rural States, just like the rest of them. Little Rock AR is a larger city than Portland OR. Also, of course some Republicans voted for it. Maine is not exactly urban either.

So, they are more responsible for the failure than four Democrats. I'm not thrilled with any Democrats voting no, but let's not shift the blame off of Republicans, who deserve every bit of it.
