Why? Why Not?

We, the USA is part of violent society....our society is violent. guns, more guns....200,000,000 guns...
..... A past president says he did nothing wrong by setting off endless violence in another country...( today, buried in the news, a bombing there, killed 25, or is it 30??) ...............................
...From the 60s thru today..it is violence...killings, more...killings..bombs..
Most of us are peaceful, but look around us. Lots of reasons why. How many did it take to do Oklahoma City? kill Dr King? escalate Viet Nam? ..etc.etc.etc....We are not without fault..Do you recall the bombing of the Pan Am plane? many do. Very few recall the orders of some U.S. Navy captain to shoot down an Iranian..(I think it was Iranian.). plane that would not respond to his demands to respond..He gave the orders to shoot that plane down killing all aboard..........It was said that the bombing of the Pan Am plane was in direct revenge of that move.......... ..We are not blameless..but today is hard to believe...just awful....again...and again...
...but who knows the reason why today?? ..I am just a retired public school teacher... I sure don't know...This what I feel today.
It is just so sad....and frightening..
We will find out why....soon enough....

Then, they have some excuse for killing. I know the our country has so many fine people..it is just that somehow we don't get to or find out about those that are on the edge of hurting so many people. Perhaps we should take that huge defense budget and devote much of that money to helping society deal with this mindless violence. I know it won'thappen, maybe just a wish..somehow to stop this insnaity. Maybe someone else knows..I don't.

This event made many of the prejudiced look at themselves and say are we this bad that we can condone killing of children. Many I knew said no and their attitudes evolved. Many did not evolve.
Today are we so intent on personal freedom to own weapons of massacre that we let scores of children die every year? Many are evolving and we must keep the images in their view. We must not rest until real meaningful gun control that would make these types of massacres very, very difficult in our society. Images can be horrifying but they can also drive us to our most humane instincts. We must keep working to get the job done. Background checks probably have little effect on this but it is an opening. We must expand this to include banning of magazines of over 10 rounds and modifications to greatly increase the rate of fire such as bump feed. We do not need to take away guns actually suited for home protection. Any friend you have who is waivering on the size of magazines or on need for high rates of fire should be shown the you tube videos of bumpfiring. This will illustrate just how murderous these weapons become as they are modified and equipped with large magazines. Ask the viewer to imagine what it would feel like to be in a crowd and someone unleash the killing potential of these weapons. It would be much worse than the bombs in Boston another use of a weapon of massacre.
