Can we find a Manchin clone somewhere?

In the long term, West Virginia is gone.

We're losing blue West Virginia in our efforts to keep it green. What they seem to want is a red West Virginia that has all the charm of a toxic slag heap.

Enjoy, fellas...

at least nationally. Unfortunately, at the state level, the Republicans have gerrymandered themselves into a comfortable sport. This year will be a test to see if the election of people like Walker, Snyder, Corbett, and Kasich was an aberration or if they represented a shift to the right in these states (i.e. Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania). I don't think that any of them are faring too well, at least in terms of their poll numbers at the moment. I'd say that the legislators in Wisconsin and Michigan are working feverishly hard to "bake in" a lot of their changes to laws, which might suggest that they know that they're vulnerable and that their days are numbered.

He's backed down on some of the RW lunacy but Walker may yet be in trouble if the unemployment numbers don't get better.

Democratic at the presidential election level when the mass of registered Ds turn out.

A split at the state level, where there is this thing where the state goes R, D, R, D for governor and almost a complete even split on the senators over time.

Almost a sure thing R majority in the senate and legislature do to some of the most embarrasingly gerrymandered districts in the country.

Corbett is in BIG trouble for a number of reasons, primarily because of the Sandusky situation. Everything else, cuts to education, being unabashedly in bed with the natural gas industry, his hair brained idea to privatize the lottery, these things piss people off, but are not enough to get people motivated enough to bump a governor in this state. We literally have never had a one term governor in my life.

But, he is literally on the wrong side of every aspect of the Sandusky situation. Did not prosecute him when he was AG, is recognized as the person who is responsible for driving the firing of Paterno and piled on when the sanctions hit.

His problem is two fold. You can fuck with the environment and education and sell of the public assets and get away with it, but you can't fuck around with a sport that lies at the very heart of so many people like PSU does. Second, PSU is a VERY republican institution. I have never seen so many rock ribbed republican's turn on a guy like Corbett, who in fucking with the environment and education and being a corporate whore is pretty much someone they normally would love.

He is in a LOT of trouble.

BUT, it depends on the D candidate.

Gotta have someone who is going to allow these Rs to either vote for them, or at the very least being willing to sit it out.

And, he or she still will be dealing with a solid R house/senate.

We haven't won West Virginia in a Presidential race since 1996, even though we've held the Senate seats; ditto Montana.

What I mean is states that have recently voted for Democratic presidents, but is harder and harder for future Democratic presidents to carry.

The truth lies in the specifics, not in rhetorical devices and shop talk. Which States do you see as 'swing States'?

teabagger governor (Corbett), both the State House and Senate.
While Corbett is unpopular now, not enough Democrats will come out to vote for someone else in 2014.

Gerrymandering is why the Republicans still control the house seats there.

Corbett approval rating is in the toilet.

Toomey was sweep in with the 2010 wave, but I am not sure if he can be remove in 2016.

Then again, Santorum was senator here somehow.

I keep hearing dumb things like Sen. Mark Pryor (AR) need to be primary. There's no way a more liberal Democrats can win his seat.

It is tough enough just for him to retain his seat.

CA, CT, DE, HI, IL, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, NJ, NY, OR, VT and WA. The rest are swing states or solidly red. WV and TN and KY went for Clinton in the 90's but the south is solid red now. Dems did make some of the west into swing states though.

got a majority in our state house and senate. It's terrible right now. Terrible. NC has been trending/teetering on blue on the national level, and has been ruled by Dems in the state legislature for years and years. Until now.
