Who could have seen this one coming?

House Republican campaign chief Greg Walden on Wednesday launched an attack on the entitlement changes contained in President Obamas budget proposal a signal that the entitlement reform well might already be poisoned.
Appearing on CNN, the National Republican Congressional Committee chairman accused Obama of trying to balance this budget on the backs of seniors and signaled Republicans may try to use the changes against Democrats in the coming election.
Waldens comments come even as key Republicans have embraced Obamas chained CPI proposal to cut Social Security benefits.
I thought its very intriguing in that his budget really lays out kind of a shocking attack on seniors, if you will, Walden (Ore.) said. We havent seen all the detail yet, so well look at it. But Ill tell you, when youre going after seniors the way hes already done on Obamacare, taking $700 billion out of Medicare to put into Obamacare, and now coming back at seniors again I think youre crossing that line very quickly here in terms of denying access to seniors for health care

The 2014 election has started and now the GOP will attack Dems for wanting to cut Social Security.

(5,113 posts)Or do you really think Repubs are so stupid they wouldn't grab the opportunity your president offered them for free?

(5,113 posts)How friggin STUPID one has to be be to OFFER cuts to SS? It's doesn't matter anymore what Repubs wanted. All that matters now is WHO OFFERED THE CUTS! And it was Obama who did.
Good fucking luck trying to convince seniors that it is some friggin "11-dimensional chess game to make republicans look bad". Obama cant even convince his own party, let alone anyone else. That was single stupidest thing anyone could possibly do. Remember that idiotic "he is offering it because republicans will never agree to accept his budget proposal" BS rationalisation? Right on! Of course they wouldn't agree! What MORON would pass such a deliciously easy way to beat the shit out of your opposition?

And of course the GOP has been gifted magnificently with a wondrously clear and simple to understand campaign item - Democrats want to cut Social Security.
How will the Democrats who will be running defend this? I will be voting, but I am mystified at how agreeing with Obama on chained CPI will help anyone get elected.

(14,255 posts)Because it was a GOP budget from Ryan.
Stuffed with things Ryan really really wants.
Stuffed with things Ryan campaigned on.
I expected the Ryan budget to be DOA because Democrats would never pass it, and surely Obama would never sign it.
Obama's budget - who the hell knows? But he wants to cut Social Security, and I guess we again have to depend on the Democrats not passing it.
Who's on first?

(5,113 posts)of a House and Senate Democrats will flatly refuse to support this idiocy.

(5,113 posts)Repubs would have to be total morons not to use it.
Anyone surprised?

(44,982 posts)It is a shocking attack on seniors . Well maybe not shocking, some of us have said he would do this for a while now.

(9,033 posts)to realize that the Grand Bargainer in Chief is quite this stupid. With one move he alienates his base, independents and seniors, while energizing the repukes.
It's a master stroke. Not.

(11,426 posts)Deserve every bit of that. They were hoping GOP would once again refuse his budget so he could say he tried and take it out.
Backfired on him good...

(14,255 posts)We all expected the Ryan plan to be nasty to social security and medicare - after all, that is his dream.
I honestly expected Obama's plan to be a little progressive (silly me), but I don't think anyone on either "side" expected Obama's plan to start skipping merrily down Austerity Avenue. For no good reason, and with better alternatives, like raising the cap.
Democrats AND Republicans are shocked - this is a campaign-killer for the Dems.
As far as loads of HORSE SHIT - the GOP doesn't need credibility - all they need is Koch money and sound bites and faux TV.
Both sides, evidently, lie during campaigns. All that counts is the votes.
We here at DU are not their audience.
I would never vote republican, but I'll be damned if I will sing the praises of or stand behind someone who acts like one.
