TPM: Top Republican Blasts Obama Budget As ‘Shocking Attack On Seniors’

That didn't take long.

Top Republican Blasts Obama Budget As ‘Shocking Attack On Seniors’

BRIAN BEUTLER APRIL 10, 2013, 3:48 PM

Remember those warnings about how instead of welcoming President Obama’s adoption of Chained CPI, Republicans would continue to deny him a budget deal and attack him for proposing to cut Social Security?

Well Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) — who also happens to be chairman of the House GOP’s re-election committee — just showed how it’s done, saying Obama’s budget “lays out a shocking attack on seniors.”

“I’ll tell you when you’re going after seniors the way he’s already done on Obamacare, taken $700 billion out of Medicare to put into Obamacare and now coming back at seniors again, I think you’re crossing that line very quickly here in terms of denying access to seniors for health care in districts like mine certainly and around the country,” he said on CNN Wednesday afternoon.

Needless to say, if the NRCC chairman is fronting this line of attack, we’ll probably see it pop up contested districts around the country next year.

coming from the party that voted on and approved the Ryan Budget in the House. Notice too that he's recycling the old "Obama cut Medicare for Obamacare" lie?

Any Democrat that thinks the Republican Party is going to attack Obama on chained CPI is delusional

The GOP voted for the Ryan budget how do you square those two views ?

Go ahead and named the Republican that is capable of attacking Obama on this issue, I would like to hear a name

10. The head of the NRCC attacked Obama in the video clip yesterday--because they know it will work.

As Chuck Todd just pointed out on Morning Joe, no one likes Chained CPI--though Beltway Joe attacked Republicans for attacking Obama on it.

13. Other R's may disagree, but note Walden is head of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Said committee is charged with re-electing Republicans in 2014. Walden is today standing by his remarks of yesterday slamming the president for offering Chained CPI in his 2014 budget.

12. Agree, if the R's use it,--no matter that many of them voted for chained CPI in RSC budget

It's not called the 'third rail' for nothing.

Late last month, 104 Republicans, including four NRCC vice chairmen — Reps. Cory Gardner (R-CO), Tom Graves (R-GA), Patrick McHenry (R-PA), and Tom Price (R-GA) — voted to replace the House GOP budget with the more conservative Republican Study Committee budget. That budget, according to an official description, “changes the formula for Social Security cost of living adjustments (COLA) by adopting a more accurate measure of inflation (chained-CPI).
