PPP: McConnell Still The Most Unpopular Senator In The CountryTom Kludt, Tuesday April 9, 2013
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) remains extremely unpopular among his Kentucky constituents, according to the latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released on Tuesday.
In fact, with a bleak approval rating of 37 percent, McConnell is the most unpopular senator PPP has tested. Fifty-four percent of Bluegrass State voters said they disapprove of their senior senator. Those numbers are largely the same as PPP's previous poll of Kentucky in December, when 37 percent of voters said they approved and 55 percent said they disapproved.
PPP's latest also found prospective Democratic candidates holding their own against McConnell in hypothetical matchups of next year's race. The poll showed McConell edging both former Rep. Ben Chandler (D-KY) and Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes by identical scores of 46 percent to 41 percent. McConnell claimed an 11-point edge over former congressional candidate Ed Marksberry in the poll.

(12,227 posts)If hard all candidates with a chance flee. If vulnerable too many unpopular careerists shoulder aside the better candidates. I know this doesn't always happen but I can tick off quite a number of blown races and bad candidates over the years. The GOP is prone to this too even when their kingmakers try to beat down the happy clowns who see an opportunity for themselves. Then to arouse primary base those who want more radical change are similarly gulled into picking the worst candidate. On the other hand, the dominant national party interference has been nauseating in regards to both candidates and delivering what people really want and need. The influence of money also looks worse amid the exciting contrasts.
