And I guess that's why they call us the blues

Texas bashing comes as second nature to many on DU, and with horrors like Rick Perry, Ted Cruz and Louie Gohmert constantly in the headlines, it is easy to see why. But Texas is also the state of Ann and Cecile Richards, Molly Ivins, the Castro brothers and Jim Hightower.

DFA and local organizations are not only NOT giving up on Texas, they are actively working to turn our state back blue again. Demographics give us hope, and now even local Republicans admit that their free ride appears to be running out of gas. When even the Wall Street journal runs a big article about it, you know that the radical right is no longer taking Texas for granted: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324883604578397021579876246.html#

I'm sure the WSJ meant for their article to be a wake-up call to the Republicans. I prefer to look at it as an opening salvo in a long, bitter, but winnable fight.

strongly supported the Democratic Party because the Dems took care of them. The final break came when Democrats voted to end the 27% Oil Depletion Allowance which really was an over-the-top giveaway of taxpayer money to Big Oil.

Texas had several Representatives, like Wright Patman, who worked for the people who worked with their hands.
