Obama owns the Sequester...

Unless he starts unleashing a series of White House Press televised press conferences
explaining exactly how republicans are dismantling our economy once again.

This should be partisan and the republicans should be specifically called out for what they
are doing..

I know for a fact, because I am a small business owner and I listen to other business owner frequently discussing economic trends.. Most of them haven’t a clue to what the Sequester is about and I feel in the long run will end up blaming Obama if the economy goes into free fall again’..

Why? Because he is the president and its easy to blame 1 person when your pissed and uniformed..

So I think President Obama needs to use the bully pulpit now!! Repeating the same thing over
and over so that an 8th grader can clearly understand that the House of Reps needs to simply
present a Bill to the White House which simply voids the Sequester.. That he can not issue or
do anything which will terminate the Sequester!!! It begins in the House!!

This is a common corporate media narrative that gives Republicans a free pass: The reason why Republicans are so bad is because of the actions of Democrats. Its a wonder that we are not going to start to see folks blaming the President for being black as the reason why Republicans are racist.

The OP is actually correct in many ways. The GOP was roughly begging Obama to allow them to overturn the sequester, basically go back to the way it was. There was also an attempt to give him far more leeway in determining where to make cuts. There was also an attempt to pass legislation to adjust the cuts to avoid some of the painful ones (but not all notably). Obama ended up being the "defender" of sequestration with a sort of "all or nothing" approach.

Now, admittedly, he was also willing to make some short term adjustments and put it off for a few months. They wouldn't do squat. And to be quite honest, I do wonder even what "short term" agreement they would have accepted. It was easy to suggest things knowing that Obama wouldn't accept them. I'm not sure what they would have suggested if they were afraid he'd say yes.

None the less, at the end of the day, the public doesn't really buy the whole "This was Obama's idea". Alternately, he has developed the reputation as the guy that's holding everyone's feet to the fire and keeping the sequestration.

If we had a Dem controlled House, the sequester would have not have happened. Nobody wanted this except for Republicans so how does anyone in their right mind come to conclusion that "Obama owns it".

Its still..

He owns it because he insisted on "sticking to the deal", at least by outward indications. It was the GOP "begging" for him to agree to "canceling" the sequester. (in reality I suspect the GOP could never had agreed on HOW it was to be "canceled&quot .

22. There were several offers

Obama never really considered any of them, and I'm dubious they were serious anyway. But they offered to cancel them outright, or to give him authority to adjust the cuts as he saw fit. He turned those two down explicitly. He demanded deficit cuts, period.

And the GOP would endeavour to point out that if they were in charge, none of this would be happening either.

The OP was right in that Obama took ownership of this when he insisted on sticking to sequestration instead of canceling it. Right, wrong or otherwise, that's a political reality. What he does with that is another matter.

Q: Who do you think is mainly responsible for these [sequester] cuts occurring – (Obama) or (the Republicans in Congress)?

Republicans in Congress 47%
Obama 33%
Both equally 14 %
No opinion 7%

http://www.washingtonpost.com/page/2010-2019/WashingtonPost/2013/03/13/National-Politics/Polling/release_218.xml

Politically and in reality he does NOT own the sequester. Get over it dude. You and the OP are wrong.

It is true that the public still holds the GOP responsible for creating the sequester cuts. When 2014 comes around, (if he hasn't "fixed" it by then&quot he will be the "owner" of "enforcing" them.
