2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI was just struck by a horrific thought.
What if the race is closer than we expect (or hope), and one or two states will make the difference, say, Ohio, NC, or even Florida?
Bush v. Gore was wrongly decided by a 5-4 majority. No such vote is possible now, even by my maths, given only 8 supreme justices. So, there is a possibility that the conservative 6th circuit or a conservative group of another federal appeals court will be issuing the final ruling on this election.
I shudder at the thought. Hopefully, we will kick as so broadly and widely, it will never come to this. But still . . . . .

(28,017 posts)45,000 ballots in Indiana.
Thousands in Ohio.
Countless in Arid Zona.
And persistent rumors of machines flipping from Clinton to Trump?

(348 posts)I guess it's day before jitters, but this race is close and it shouldn't be. I fear for all sorts of things and the media does its collective best to terrify everyone. From mentioning terror plots, to breaking voting machines to actual intimidation by Trump's goons. I'm climbing the walls in full panic mode. I'll admit it.

(118 posts)Worried that Scott's election officials in Fla can tip results to Trump, and Walker in Wisconsin can/will mess with election results there, giving Trump the victory, even if NH and Nevsda go for Hillary.
Both states have experience and motivation to mess with results. Remember Waukesha and the "found ballots". Boy I hope I'm wrong, but truthfully, I'm terrified that it is so close, and that Fla and wiscondin are in such untrustworthy hands. Peace, hannah

(5,255 posts)But the Eleventh Circuit (Florida) is 8-3 Democratic appointees and the Fourth Circuit (North Carolina) is 10-5. So while this could be a problem in Ohio, it shouldn't be in Florida or North Carolina. And honestly, if we're close enough that some court case in Ohio matters, Clinton will most likely have won Florida and North Carolina.
