Israeli Embassy Holocaust Event in Germany Disrupted by Anti-Semites

YERUSHALAYIM - A virtual Holocaust Remembrance Day event in Germany was disrupted by anti-Semites shouting hate slogans and displaying photos of Adolf Hitler.

The event, sponsored by the Israeli embassy in Berlin on Monday night via Zoom, was suspended and then reopened with security measures to prevent further disruptions.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas condemned the incident, saying in a tweet: “What an incredible lack of respect toward survivors and toward the memory of the deceased. It’s an indescribable shame!”

Israeli Ambassador Jeremy Issacharoff told Haaretz in a phone interview on Tuesday that “as I listened to the siren in Israel on the radio this morning, I felt profoundly saddened that after so many years – 75 years after the Holocaust – someone here could desecrate the memory of the Shoah and disrupt a survivor’s testimony.” The hate messages came during a talk by Holocaust survivor Zvi Herschel.

What is worse, there are those who condone this type of behavior because of the country involved. It is irrelevant to them what is happening, in this case a Holocaust memorial, and they demonstrate two types of rank bigotry, but feel they are "justified" in their hate.
