Its like the sequel to Jesus Christ Superstar.
The Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn is spending $60,000 on a new ad campaign billing the Son of God as The Original Hipster an add that features Christ in a pair of red (and untied!) Converse sneakers poking out from under his robes.
The goal is a resurrection even niftier than Jesus original one: getting young urbanites to stop saying P-eww to the pews.
Why is that an image of Jesus in Converse sneaks so shocking to us? said Diocese spokesman Msgr. Kieran Harrington. The Church is countercultural. ... The Church is accepting of all people.

At first blush this campaign looks silly, although there is much to be said for the counter-cultural nature of Christianity.

(2,208 posts)I know, a shocking statement if there ever was one!
"Hipster" is NOT a good thing.
Hipsters do not refer to themselves as hipsters, and get offended if someone else does.
This is not going to get more asses in the pews.
It is going to make their target audience laugh at them even harder.
Hipster bashing is almost as much fun as Catholic bashing, so now one can do both at the same time!
I'll have to look for one of these ads in my hipster north Brooklyn nabe.
Before they all get defaced...
Almost as dumb an idea as Buddy Christ:

Hipsters are not hippies, nor are the socialist.
