Catholic Church Expels Priest for Endorsing Same-Sex Marriage

After more than 30 years in front of the altar, priest José Nicolás Alessio was dismissed from the Catholic Church. He claims the cause for the dismissal was his public support for same-sex marriage. The Archdiocese of Córdoba informed its “faithful Catholics” yesterday that Alessio had been expelled, just a day after Uruguay became the second Latin American country to legalise gay marriage.

“He automatically lost all the rights of the clerical state and he is no longer related to its obligations” explained the documents, which was signed by Father Dante Eduardo Simón, the Judicial Vicar.

Interesting how easy it is for the Church to expel some priests over others, isn't it?

Priests who commit crimes are protected while those who follow their conscience are kicked out. However, the best part was:

But if I perform a baptism or marry someone they will have to admit it, because they cannot erase who I am: a priest. Even if a doctor gets fired, he is still a doctor,” Alessio said.

Power to that priest!

Father Simón denies that Alessio has been punished just for “thinking differently”. He claimed that since 2010 there have been a lot of accusations against Alessio, including “those about giving the sacrament of marriage, in a way contrary to the Catholic doctrine. Specifically, for having married same-sex or divorced couples.” The judicial vicar added: “He [Alessio] always had the opportunity to defend himself but has always rejected it.”

What is interesting is that the doctrine on sacramental marriage considers marrying divorced heterosexuals as invalid, sacramentally, as marrying the same sex.

The RCC will never change its doctrine on sacramental marriage but it may well on the civil aspects of marriage for same sex couples.

Still I think that the actions of the priest is very commendable. And who knows, you could be wrong and if enough priests and parishioners start following their example they might at least CONSIDER changing their dogma.

The church loves child molesting preists, yet hates fair minded clergymen. And catholics wonder why thier religion is a laughing stock that attracts accusations of cruelty and inhuman behavior.

They don't want you if you support abortion and contraception rights. Anyone who's Catholic and supports these things should be looking for another church; it's really that simple. The Church isn't going to change unless people of conscience start leaving it, if it ever changes at all.
