Which has led to no shortage of defcon-3 level arguments on the field. Not surprised to see his take on world events is about as accurate as his strike zone, his close calls at 1st, whether a ball is fair or foul or whatever imaginary shit he pulls out during the course of a game because he feels like it. He is demented on the field as well as off. The only reason he endures is because the umpires union is right up there with your average big city cops union in terms of accountability.

there is not a baseball fan that would accept Joe West's judgement about anything. I'm 65 years old and can't think of an umpire in my lifetime that has been so universally mocked. derided and screamed at by fans of all teams. That is not a good thing, although in his synaptically challenged brain he probably believes it is.
