Pete Carroll regrets fact Seahawks didnt sign Colin Kaepernick, says another team is interested in him now
In what were his most expansive comments on the Seahawks interactions with Colin Kaepernick, coach Pete Carroll said Thursday he wishes in retrospect the team could have found a way to sign him in 2017 or 2018.
I regret that that didnt happen in some fashion, Carroll said of not signing Kaepernick, who has not played in the NFL since 2016, a season in which he kneeled during the national anthem while playing for the 49ers. I wish we would have contributed to it because he deserved to play.
I wish we could have figured that out knowing what we know now, and given him the chance because I would love to see him play for all those years.

(36,217 posts)Back when Pete Carroll needed a backup QB, he entered talks with Kaepernick. Negotiations broke down when Colin Kaepernick said he would not promise to not take a knee, something Carroll was adamant about.

(6,276 posts)He has been consistently supportive of Seahawks airing their views. There were reports that the Seahawks passed on Kaepernick in 2018 over protests, but Carroll disputed those stories at the time.
I haven't seen any evidence that Carroll personally said no because of Kaepernick's protests, though it's possible someone else in the organization had concerns that played a part.
