.....to your son. I wish him all the luck in the world at the finals although we know there is little or no luck involved in this particular sport.

Last year, he fought in the finals with a bruised rib from sparring the week before. He lost that fight, largely because he had trouble moving. He has been hoping to fight the guy again, and sure enough, he'll get his chance on March 17.

.... so let us know how it goes. Whatever happens, you have the right to be proud of your son. The Golden Gloves is time-honored.

entered this year. Also, "unattached" fighters from other states and Canada. It's the 10th year that upstate has combined all four regions (NYC is unto itself).

We have until March 17 to prepare. My second-cousin, a three-time amateur champion, helped me in the corner, and is helping me prepare my son and our other fighter for March. We all work well together.

Although we are getting a storm, and the roads are bad, the "boys" want to head to the YMCA where we frequently train. There is a growing group of pre-teen boys there that view my fighters as heroic figures. We have started teaching these young fellows some basics, with the understanding that they follow the code of not abusing it. They have a YouTube channel (I think that's what they called it), and have been filming my fighters sparring, etc, the past month for it. I like that.
