Not baseball weather in Denver

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Rockies owner Dick Monfort is among the grounds crew shoveling snow in the hope his team will squeeze in a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Nearly an hour before first pitch at 3:10 p.m. EDT, the crew had hauled off a majority of the eight inches of snow that covered the outfield grass. There were still mounds stacked up in front of the dugouts.

The temperature at first pitch for the afternoon game will be around 38 degrees, making this one of the top-10 coldest games at Coors Field. The record is 28 degrees on April 12, 1997, against Montreal.

Monfort says between scoops of snow that "everybody is trying to make this game happen."

The night game is set for 8:40 p.m.

Tomorrow's snow is supposed to be worse. And Thursday's high is forecast at only 38° .

The first game is delayed an hour because they needed more time to remove snow. I'm not excited about going to the evening game in 30 degree, breezy weather and a chance of rain/snow.

I know they've got 4 games to fit into 3 days and are expecting snow again tomorrow, but playing in this weather sucks for players and fans.

You'd better hope they get the seats cleared.

Independent contractors Robert Bueno, right, and Gary Brown help clear Coors Field of snow ahead of the Rockies afternoon game. (Kathryn Scott Osler, The Denver Post)

I'm a fair weather fan in the regular season. Playoffs and Opening Day are different stories. Of course, Opening Day weather seems to always be 60 degrees plus and sunny, so I've been lucky there.

DENVER -- Colorado's game with the New York Mets is in a delay despite the efforts by Rockies owner Dick Monfort and general manager Dan O'Dowd to help shovel the field to squeeze in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

No new start time has been announced yet. The game was scheduled for 3:10 p.m. EDT, with the nightcap set for 8:40 p.m.

Monfort and O'Dowd joined the grounds crew members and assisted in removing most of the eight inches of snow from the outfield. Workers still have to clear snow that's piled high in front of the Rockies' dugout and down the right-field line.

The temperature at first pitch for the afternoon game will be around 38 degrees, making this one of the top-10 coldest games at Coors Field. The record is 28 degrees on April 12, 1997, against Montreal.
