.....Woods was penalized earlier this year for taking an illegal drop. In Abu Dhabi, his first tournament of the season, Woods thought he had made the cut when he shot 73 in the second round. But he was given a two-stroke penalty form taking a free drop when his ball was embedded in sand. That was not allowed in the tournament. The two strokes pushed Woods' total to 3-over-par 147. The cut was 146.

Under the rules prior to a couple of years ago Tiger would have been DQ'ed. A new rule was added after penalties started being assessed based on what people see on television. It allows the penalty to be assessed after the round is completed but the rules committee can waive the DQ. That is what happened in this case.

As some one who only watches golf if Tigers playing i guess i'll be seeking alternate sports programing for the rest of the weekend.
