(17,077 posts)I'm a long time Laker hater, and no fan of Kobe, but that's no way to go out. I wouldn't wish that injury on any one. (Well, I really wouldn't wish any injury on any one.) Still, a torn achilles is not something one bounces back from, especially at his age and level of competition. He probably is done.
So, here's his whiny FB post from last night:

(17,077 posts)I'm sympathetic to his situation. It's not egregious whining or anything, but it is what it is.

(81,803 posts)I'm no Lakers fan, but he is one of those rare talents we get to experience in sports. Going out like this is too cruel for him.
He's in a tough spot. Does he come back for 3-4 months next season or just hang it up? Will the Lakers even want him for 3-4 months? Is it worth it for him to prepare to play in the NBA if he's only going to play 3-4 more months. Mariano had his surgery and came back for one more year, but Mariano is vital to the Yankees. Is Kobe as important to the Lakers at the end of the season?
