The Cleveland Browns have agreed to trade quarterback Colt McCoy to the San Francisco 49ers, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Monday.
As part of the deal, the Browns also will send their sixth-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for San Francisco's picks in the fifth and seventh rounds.
The trade agreement was reported earlier by CBSSports.com.

He became expendable last week when the Browns signed veteran backup Jason Campbell, who is expected to challenge Brandon Weeden for the starting job.

(20,365 posts)First the Browns then the Niners. About as far removed from his Texas home and being loved as you can get.

(1,695 posts)That's interesting. Wish I knew what the 49ers were thinking. And Campbell beating out Weeden seems unlikely. Weeden has got a ton of potential imo.

(31,166 posts)anybody who plays that position in Cleveland has been jinxed.
That being said, I did think McCoy showed potential at times. Harbaugh, who thinks he can coach anyone to play QB, must obviously agree. 49ers didn't give up squat to get him. I think it's a good pick-up.

Remember a game the Browns' Jeff Garcia played against the Cowboys on September 19th, 2004? His QB rating for that game was 0.

(10,893 posts)but the poster above me has a point. Colt might be a decent QB, if only he played under the proper team and if the team had competent coaching. The 49ers might be able to do something with him.
Makes me wonder if that could be the case with JaMarcus Russell. He was lousy here in Oakland, but he could possibly turn it around somewhere else were he to come back to the league.
