Black Futures Lab/Black Census Project

Are folks here familiar with this organization and their census project? I saw a reference to the Black Census Project somewhere recently and looked it up. I found three reports from the census project and have read one in its entirety so far (and was glad I did). I don't really have any comments, but I thought people who don't already know about it might be interested, and I'm curious to hear reactions from people.

The reports can be found at blackcensus.org, and the organization's website is blackfutureslab.org

1. Check out the site more as to who is behind it. Who owns the registered domain?

I heard Russia and the rebukes are helping mF45 stifle the vote of black Americans. A bogus site would help dupe black voters into giving their information for them to be taken off voting rolls.

This is the Whois info

4. Caution is a good thing...

And a principle to which I subscribe. After reading one of their reports, my next move was to do some digging. I was satisfied with what I found, but I'd still recommend people do their own research and draw their own conclusions.

5. Yes, Senator Harris spoke about them during her campaign, thats when I first heard of it

Headed by Alicia Garza - one of the founders of Black Lives Matter. I might have posted the video of Sen Harris talking about them here. Or on another site I frequent. I'll see if I can find the thread.

6. Thanks.

I'd like to hear what Senator Harris had to say, if you do find the video.

7. She spoke about them while highlighting her plan for black economic change at the Essence Fest

On Saturday morning, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris let it be known to the crowd at the 2019 Essence Festival in New Orleans that whatever the current president means by “Make America Great Again,” she’s not going back to it.“What exactly does ‘again’ mean?” Harris questioned. ” Back before the Civil Rights Act? Back before the Voting Rights Act? Back before Roe v Wade? Back before the Fair Housing Act?” “Well, Essence, we’re not going back,” she said to raucous applause. “In fact, it is time to turn the page. And it is time to write the next chapter.”

Harris also emphasized the need to pay close attention to Black life, underlining pivotal work done by the Black Census Project; led by civil rights activist Alicia Garza, it is largest survey of Black people conducted in the United States since Reconstruction. Harris believes that Black life, and by extension, Black people’s issues, are America’s issues: such as the economy, health care, the racial wealth gap, national security, and more. Some of these entrenched inequities are the fuel behind Harris’ $100 billion plan to invest in Black homeownership.
