No, I am not here to start something ( ), it is the name of a TV show on NBC (?) which is premiering it's season 8 on Sunday, April 2nd, night. It is a genealogy show. It isn't as good as Dr. Gate's show on PBS, "Finding Your Roots", but it isn't all that bad. It doesn't delve into DNA, but it does focus on one person the entire hour. This week, it is Aisha Tyler.
It is good show. I know I am not really selling it well, but after watching Dr. Gates' show, it pales in comparison.
ETA: This was a really interesting show. Ms. Tyler was exploring the roots of her 2X maternal grandfather, who was a Republican (remember, they weren't the bad guys in those days) and ran a saloon called "The Black Elephant." His house is a historical landmark in Austin, TX.
If you can check it out. BTW, it is on TLC, not NBC.

(53,951 posts)It is a fun show. If you haven't seen, "Finding Your Roots" with Dr. Gates, I really suggest you see that one! Some of the clips are on YouTube. The big difference is "FYR" is much more diverse in its guests and the DNA portion is so very interesting. Though, the "WDYTYA" had an episode about Alfre Woodard which was very interesting and the Sean Hayes one was pretty funny.

It's too funny. They get some chest thumping skin head, convinced he's 100% grade A prime European and WITHOUT FAIL, damn near all of them are like 20% African! Oh, the horror!!

This episode was really interesting because it touched on AA participation in politics following Emancipation. I still prefer Dr. Gates' show because it is more in-depth, despite having three guests, and utilizes DNA.
