I saw the video of his sentencing--he's obviously not getting his steroid shots--his neck has gone from the size of his head to this not-quite-pencil thing, but much smaller.
He'll spend the rest of his productive days in protective incarceration.

(8,709 posts)My God, this is the message we need because I don't think anything else will do. I'm pleasantly surprised and hope this will help some of the women deal with their awful, awful experience.
Goodness, his neck certainly has gone done. These PDs must know by now that something is up with steroids and the unabandoned predatory nature of some of these big-ass cops.
When I showed the story last month to my husband, who spent the better part of his childhood and youth in Hawaii. He said Holtzclaw will be convicted and swiftly. I was like, yeah, maybe the sheer number of women. He said not only that but he's Hapa haole, don't you see the Asian in him - I had not but immediately saw and easily confirmed. Why, I asked. He said it will be easier for the all-white jury to distance themselves from him, to make an example of him, as they well should, but they won't be deliberating long.

I don't feel sorry for him, either. I am just surprised that his parents didn't do a better job of bringing him up. Or maybe they did, and he just went wrong, somehow.
I saw the Asian in him straight up. It's what surprised me when I first got a look at him. I suppose I am stereotyping, but he's the first Asian-American cop rapist I've ever read about, so it was a surprise to me to hear about this story.

(89,241 posts)the type of crimes he was guilty of even the worst raised people would not do unless they were some sick fucks.
and it's sad but i'm sure he was able to become a cop because he was a disgusting fuck. the stereotypical good asian types would be less likely to get the job.
there is another case of some asian cops from the LAPD who threw a women(also asian) from a moving car. the whole thing about why they picked her up is suspicious as they didn't pick up the guys she was with. she says they sexually assaulted her which i believe .

(8,709 posts)I don't doubt that he raped white women, maybe even Asian-American women, Oklahoma - Native American women, forget about it. The world sees me as a black woman but I do honor my measure of Asian heritage. Just saying it's not for me to account for the ethnicity of the prepertrator, just that predators do not want to risk injury, like a schoolyard bully or a white shark. They know the easiest people to target because they think/know they can get away with it and black women were easy pickings.
Have fun being a cop in prison, Holtzclaw.

(8,709 posts)I can read the articles thoroughly now. As usual, I steel myself knowing that the perpertrator would get away with it because pf the usual messages/reasons. Now I read with glee.
Yes, Hallelujah!, indeed.

(8,709 posts)for the sentence to be just, at least 100 years consecutively. Seeing another human being in pain and sobbing like he was, I almost felt sorry for him, but neh. I'm sure those women and the girl were weeping, too, when he laid his filth of all manner on them.

will ask the judge to run Holtzclaw sentence consecutively on every count.
He's under suicide watch after his breakdown during the verdict and I wonder if this will affect the sentencing, being a cop and all.

(2,034 posts)I admit i don't understand what consecutively means

(8,709 posts)must finish serving one sentence before serving the next conviction sentence. So the DA wants Holtzclaw to remain in prison every single day of those 263 years, and not say, for example, each sentence being 5 years and spending 5 years in jail covers them all at once and he's out in 5 years.

(8,709 posts)Smug and and self-assured, Hotlzclaw showed up to court each day with a smile, convinced that he would walk away unscathed, a free man. Why? Because history has shown this to be true. Black women are less likely to report being raped, are less likely to have their rapist convicted, particularly not if that rapist is a white man, and especially not if that rapist is a white cop. As a police officer Holtzclaw knew this and he used this knowledge to not only commit crimes, but to invoke terror upon his victims. He smiled everyday, until Thursday; thats when he cried.
This idea that black women are 'unrapeable' is centuries old and is a stereotype that persists even today. It discourages many from seeking justice, and it is the very stereotype that Holtzclaws attorney played into. Therefore, this rapists tears should not be our focus at this time. He does not deserve to cry and he does not deserve this moment. It is a moment that belongs to the victims and their due justice, I think, after all they have gone through we should let them have it."

(24,544 posts)As for those old "stereotypes about black women and promiscuity," that is just one of those things that makes me scratch my head hard as hell.
I've been a black woman for a while now and have known, between my friends, family and sorority, HUNDREDS of other black women. Some I liked, some I loved, some I couldn't stand. But from what I could tell very, VERY few of them were promiscuous in any way, shape or form.
In fact, most black women I know are some of the prissiest, most restricting women I have ever known. They make men jump through hoops these men didn't even know existed before even giving them the time of day. Maybe it's because most of these black women that I've known were Southern?? I don't know. But this whole "black women are promiscuous" canard was obviously created by someone doing some deep, wishful thinking and had nothing to do with reality.
Tell me black women are demanding, and I'd go "yeah, I can see that." Tell me black women are hard on themselves and everyone around them, and I'd go "yeah, I can see that." But tell me black women are promiscuous? Don't see it, have never seen it and probably never will.

(8,709 posts)system as protection.
A few years ago, Mr. KoB and I decided instead of date night, lets live it up with a vaca-stay at a nice hotel downtown. He made reservations in his name on his card, he got their first since he was coming from out of town and the airport was close by. I won't even go into what happened at the desk when I showed up but it is along the same line as the stereotyping decribed below. Well, neither of us had much cash on hand. I decide I'll go to my bank's ATM and let him relax. He hails a cab, tells the driver where I'm going, to wait for me and bring me back safely. That's about all the conversation I heard.
Got in the cab. I hadn't uttered a word or even completely settled in when cabbie asks, "Who was that? He gave me a generous tip." Oh, that's cool, I thought. Before I could even answer, "Hey, I got a joke for you." I swear to God, this man started telling a prostitute joke. Then another one and laughing like I was in on the joke somehow. I was clearly not laughing and actually scowling, that made it all the more funny to him, because you know us prostitutes can't take a joke and he knows what I'm all about, meeting some poor sap who's stupid enough to have me run to his bank and steal his money. Cabbie was going to let me have it.
When he started on the 3rd joke I asked him if he was sure he wanted to tell another because I obviously didn't find them funny. And, by the way, why are you telling hooker jokes. Do I look like one? Did my husband tell you I was one when he gave you the generous tip?
"Why didn't you stop me? Why did you let me go on like that?" So now it's my fault His perception is my fault. And the "deception" is also my fault.
I don't know one AA woman or woman from the diaspora who I'd consider promiscuous. I'm a freaking prude when I think about it in comparison to what I've seen on film. A Latina friend and I were talking about Holtzclaw/promiscuity and she's like, we get that all the time, we're fiery, insatiable, and that's all we want...*sigh*
But we're waiting for that sentencing that will say it all.

(8,709 posts)It's sad that we're more shocked by the verdict than what Holtzclaw repeatedly perpetrated.
When I relayed the incident to friends and family there was never any shock. Just oh-oh, what did you say and what did he say and then what happened?
But, gurl, I love consequences and we dealt with him promptly and got a reply from the cab company, how they handled the cabbie, and what could they do to make up for the incident. In the spectrum of suffering, this doesn't even compare to what the ladies and the young girl faced with Holtzclaw.

These people don't know one goddamned thing about us, but simply because of the color of our skin we are prostitutes (you) or broke and unable to afford a home (me). Our level of education, income is completely immaterial. We are black women so of course that IMMEDIATELY makes us unable/less than. I swear to God, it's no wonder that so many of us suffer from so many health problems.
I'm a freaking prude when I think about it in comparison to what I've seen on film.

And as someone who barely cooks and hasn't been to church since her daughters were christened (last one was five years ago), it's a good thing those weren't qualities that my hubby was looking for.
