"There is a perception that Republicans don't like people of color, they don't like black people, brown people or people of different color skin. It's not true, but that's the perception that we have to overcome," Paul said at a breakfast organized by the Christian Science Monitor. "And the only way to overcome that, I think, is by showing up and saying over and over again that it is not true."
Paul said he will continue to speak at places like Howard about the Republican Party's "rich history in civil rights."
"I'll keep trying. I don't give up easily," he said.

(194 posts)a very dangerous mindset. are you sure you want to say that? Perception is reality is the basis for people seeing validity in stereotypes.

(43,888 posts)Didn't think I needed the thingie, but here it is, belatedly.
you would prefer to be as bad as them instead of being a better person? By NOT judging others based on perception? Gotcha. You get 'em! and they will get you, and you will get them, and they will get you, and you will get them....etc. See where that ends up?

The Republican Party today is the party of many racists, quite a few in positions of owner
His father is one of them

so long as they are willing to LISTEN when told that his perception collides with our reality.
For example, when he says most influential Blacks were republicans and we tell him that his perception of the republican party is 50+ years old ... what does he do with that? If he drops that line from his pitch, fine. But if he re-uses it, I'm done talking with him because all he wants to do is (appear to) talk TO me not with me.

(47,992 posts)since those who experience economic injustice just happen to include a high proportion of people of color, it just LOOKS like Republicans don't like people of color. Wink. Wink.
It's another instance of Plausible Deniability, so whatever we say about it they claim the other is true, to suit whoever their audience is: "We don't hate people of color; we just hate failure" or "We don't hate you poor; we just don't think people of color are as capable as the rest of us." Wink, wink. All denials equally plausible.

(60,536 posts)The kind of perception based on facts?

(40,416 posts)But saying it and living it are two entirely different things.
Republicans are always saying it -- when they aren't using racial slurs, that is. But it's the Republican policies which speak louder than any mere pronouncement.
We'll believe what you say when it aligns with what you do.
Got it, Ayn Rand Paul?

(29,047 posts)but they are no longer that party. The Republican Party is very different than what it used to be.

(30,058 posts)Still have not been able to get rid of the bad taste in their mouths. The South was very blue, blamed the Republicans for integrating their schools, did a lot of mean things to other humans. Then the dixiecrats migrated to the Republican party and the crazy TP has emerged, dumb as a post and always reminding us they want to destroy the USA. YES Paul gives history of the Republican party but it is not what it used to be.

(8,053 posts)when the Civil right act and the voting rights acts were passed by Johnson, the "dixiecrats" all left the party and joined the rethugs. Those young people in that audience had grandparents and great grandparents who lived through that and witnessed it first hand.
The day Rand Paul learns to stop pissing on our heads while calling it rain, the better off he'll be.
Oh, and get state certified already.
