Well, family ...

It's time for me to take a break from this site. Earlier, this evening I had a comment removed and locked out of a thread that I started.

At Thu Apr 11, 2013, 10:35 PM, an alert was sent on the following post:

"Shut up you fool"? ...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=299172

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Thu Apr 11, 2013, 10:41 PM, and voted 4-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT and said: This post as well as the post 1SBM responded to should be alerted upon and hidden.

Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: He's right! "1StrongBlackMan" is the living embodiment of "anti-intellectual dick".
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: Yeah, but I don't blame him for his reply to being called a fool. The other post calling him a fool should be hidden, too.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: An appropriate and measured response to being called a fool. Leave it.

CONSEQUENCES OF THIS DECISION

You will no longer be able to participate in this discussion thread, and you will not be able to start a new discussion thread in this forum until 11:41 PM. This hidden post has been added to your Transparency page.

Apparently, 4 of my "peers" felt that my response to being told to "shut up" and being called a "fool" was over the top. (I actually, had attempted to delete my response and apologize for my response; but whomever alerted, I was judged and locked out)

This experience made me ask myself, why am I allowing people that I do not know, have no particular attachment to, or love for, get me so worked up that I would respond in a manner that I know is inappropriate. My answer ... because DemocraticUnderground is no longer a site for Democrats ... It should be renamed "ProgressiveUnderground", where attacking a (or better, THIS) Democratic president is the new normal ... and that is extremely frustrating to me.

If allowed, I will lurk because DU remains a good place for information and for the most part has plenty of posters with insightful analysis (even if I disagree with them) ... but I can no longer brook the anti-Democrat/anti-THIS president commentary that is flooding this site.

The admins are the final arbitrators of everything here, keep track of those who cause serious problems, and they do ban members, so it sure wouldn't hurt. I think it was totally inappropriate to vote to hide a post and then repeat the offense.

(unlike the polls now where you can see who voted for what), they PPR'd a few people who voted the wrong way in a poll that included some sort of bigoted option.

They might not get back to someone who alerted, they may just remove the offending person who wakes up to log into DU and discovers...ooops...they're no longer welcome. I don't know if they'd get too excited about a surfeit of name calling, though I don't presume to speak for them.

47 of the people who refused to sign the blood oath Grayson is demanding
(who is Alan and where did he pop up?) are major heroes of the Civil Rights Movment including Elijah Cumming and Sheila Jackson Lee and it also includes Joseph Kennedy, younger member of the Kennedy's.

This who thing is starting to feel like the LIbertarian Ron Paul Rand Paul and their brand of
well, we know very well what those friends of the old racist groups are about.

This is getting very dangerous.

And it is also connected to the NRA and Gun issue happening this week.

But every person who decides to not respond to them, means they have won and will flood it even more.

the same thing is happening on some other so called boards.

If one asks me, this very vocal 5% is alligning themselves with Fox and the 15% of the tea party.

Very dangerous.

Fri May 3, 2013, 07:47 PM

People are flat out cussing out the idiots perpetuating the "Obama Proclaimed May 1 to be Loyalty Day" idiocy and I don't blame them one bit. Community standards are out of the damn door, not that they were ever all that strong to begin with.

There was a post on the home page yesterday and the poster was actually PISSED that people were actually blaming the Republicans and their unprecedented filibustering obstinance for a large chunk of the dysfunctionality in Washington right now because as far as this poster was concerned, ALL bad shit is Obama's fault. ANYTIME, EVER. And of course he got the 150+ obligatory recs from the slobbering idiots backing him up.

I will try my hardest not to note the elephant in the room which is that DU, especially GD, is comprised of the primarily the exact same demographics that frequent Free Republic and the Republican Party. I don't think it's a coincidence that the loudest, dumbest, most prolific (I mean 5-10 OPs a day -- seemingly EVERY day) posters who hate everything this president does fit the Tea Party demographic to a T. Coincidence, I'm sure.

I even asked Skinner how it must make him feel to know that DUs demographics don't even faintly resemble that of the Dem party. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1259&pid=1486 No response from Skinner himself (which you know, I'm totally shocked about ) but a few DUers have taken it upon themselves to send me some very interesting responses.

The majority feel that none of the admins particularly care what goes on here as long as they get the ad money from the clicks and views.

So, if everyone black, female, Hispanic, young etc. (you know, the members of the real Democratic base) leave DU because they are tired of being pounced upon by the most rabid, clueless group of Internet posters outside of a Yahoo! comments section, then so be it.

I mean there is disagreement and there is DU. Where even posting something even remotely positive about this president complete with links to the most reputable news agencies in the world will get shouted down. There is NOTHING anyone here can say positive about this man without it getting shit all over. It doesn't matter how newsworthy, important, relevant etc.

But some half-literate in Bumblefuck, WY can post "I'm so sick of this president being such a corporatist" with half of the words misspelled and it will get 100 recs. There is nothing even REMOTELY fair, thoughtful or intelligent about the knee-jerk hatred that is thrown the man's way. If there was some balance somewhere, sometime then you would know that the issues really ARE policy-based. But the fact that nothing positive can be posted without it being crapped on is all the proof you need to know that there are groups of people here who simply despise the man. Why the admins put up with it is the only question.

as disappointing as it may be, there it is!

One would think that the Admins would keep a watchful eye on the Democrat and B/O Forums, in particular ... since this IS DEMOCRATICunderground and each of these forums have a STATED purpose ... to root out those that demonstrate time and again that they have no love for the Democratic Party, in general, and President Obama, in particular.

Can you imagine this open hostility being allowed in the Israel Forum? (I hear tell that merely pointing out that the Minister Farakhan had evolved in his speech, thoughts and actions with respect to people of the Jewish Faith; or raising the question of whether zionism has roots in eastern european white supremacy, will get one T/Sed before the end of the day.)

Maybe the Admins are just tired?

Maybe, they just haven't figured out a strategy for dealing with folks?

Maybe, this franchise has evolved, in true capitalistic fashion, to the point where $$$ subsumes the original mission?

The answer to these questions are pivotal ... and the answer will be evident.

I had thought of suggesting they not have Forum posts appear on the main page. That would lessen the exposure of PRO-Democratic/Pro President Obama threads (read: lessen them being shat upon) because then the shatters would have to actively seek out the threads for their daily shitting, giving those of us that enjoy DU, in general, an oportunity to read the plethora of interesting articles that are unrelated to the Democratic Party or President Obama AND have space to discuss the Democratic Party and President Obama.

But then I did the experiment of going to the main page and viewing every post that had the words "Democrat" and/or &quot President) Obama" ... and realized what that page would look like ... a most UNdemocratic party/Un President Obama, more like a dredge/freeer, page.

What kind of Democratic web site has to put up a filter so that pro-Democratic party posts are hidden from the majority of posters? I mean, the fact that you would even think to suggest something like that shows how completely psychotic and beyond fucked up this place is.

When I joined DU, this place had alot of really smart, funny, interesting people. Some of the posts were absolutely HILARIOUS. I have been out of the country since 2004 so reading DU was really a great way to keep up with what was going on back home.

This place now is -- literally -- a shell of its former self. The most deranged posters here own GD now. Yes, OWN it. There is no depth that they will not sink to to slime this president and the Dem party. And I say this as someone who is not even a Democrat myself! I am an independent and have been for years. So if I'm saying that the anti-Dem shit is bad, it must REALLY be bad.

And you're right about the Libertarians -- you can see them all up in every thread claiming it is their job to criticize Democrats more than Republicans and they are just trying to "keep Democrats to their principles" as if these fools have any clue what those are. Between the open racism, the psychotic episode that was Loyalty Day, and the OP that was pissed that people on a Democratic web site had the unmitigated gall to blame the Republicans for the dysfunctional crap in Washington right now, this place has turned a corner from which I don't see it coming back. And considering how bad DU has been for a how long, that is really saying something.

At the end of the day, I thank God -- sometime literally after reading some of the stuff these people post -- that they represent the Dem party about as much as the dust bunnies under my sofa. But my interest, enjoyment and participation in this place has really plummeted over the last year. I know I'll be gone for good before too long.

I hear you about the tone of DU these days ... and I've have thought of bouncing many a post ... day ... but, as anti-Democrat/anti-President Obama as this place has become, there still are some posts that catch my interest.
