I just got my baby chicks in the mail!

They look good except for two that got over the divider and separated from the rest. One didn't make it, and the other is getting special treatment - I'm warming her up tucked into my shirt.

Golden Seabright bantam.

The bantams look like bumblebees and make the standard chicks look huge!

You will have to post some photos.

We have a moreRun-of-the-Mill mixed flock.
We started our flock in 2007,
and have found them to be intelligent, social, and entertaining.

We currently have about 14 young birds. We got Buckeyes, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Black Copper Marans and some egg layers. We were pretty disappointed to find out that our GLW are all cockerels "/

I bet your bantams are adorable. We'd love to see some pictures!

but I have 11 hens and more than enough eggs. I switched to feeding them only organic food and it's costing me a fortune. I have Rhode Island reds, Ameraucana (beautiful blue eggs), Black Australorp, and my favorites - my 3 Buff Brahmas. I also have a huge monster rooster - a Buff Orpington. He is twice the size of my chickens.

i don't want to sell them , because that runs into state requirements. I'm not against the requirements - they're needed to keep commercial eggs safe. It's just not worth it for as few extra as I have.

Hey there Woman of the Hills!

Good for you for going organic! You may already know about this, but
have you tried duckweed as chicken feed?

It's easy to grow, replenishes VERY fast and is a healthy source of food for your little guys.
Here's just one article (there are tons of you Google "Duckweed Chicken Feed&quot

Also - Just for fun, here's a video of chickens going ga-ga for the stuff:

Best wishes at you!
