We had an escape two days ago

My dog (a boxer mix) and the neighbor dog (a young Belgian Terveuren) busted out of the back gate and ran through the neighborhood. It took an hour or more until we found them. Two cars, kids on bicycles and on foot patrolling the area. Since there are some busy streets around here, we were frantically worried.

I actually thought my dog wouldn't escape because in the past when the downstairs neighbor's dog busted out, mine hung around. She'll follow me without my having to hold the leash and obeys really well. I guess the lure of a run through the neighborhood with her pal was too tempting to avoid. Both are safe and sound now, but they had us worried.

i had a little german shepherd that i took in as a stray (clue #1) who would do the most amazing things to take a romp. flew over fences, jumped out of second story windows, operated the latches of screen doors. passed it on to the other dog i had at the time who taught it to the next dog after the first one was gone.
hated it. but they all knew how to get back home, and i eventually stopped worrying about them.

He'll run away whenever he can. Thankfully, he's not as ingenious as your shepherd, at lest not yet. We've already had to create extra reinforcement for the gate. This guy is also a stray and still young with lots of energy.
