A Little Bit About Me
IM A LOYAL FRIEND - I am a devoted companion w ho is looking for someone to share their company w ith me. As
long as I am by your side or at your feet, I w ill be your constant companion. Just your presence makes me happy!
Edit: HE'S MINE!!!! Or, I'm HIS!!! So happy! H's just a great big (huge!) bundle of gentle, cuddly adorableness. He's got beautiful, wise eyes and I love, love, love him. It may take up to a week til I can bring him home once the vet gets his surgery and shots done because they're very busy. I actually dreamt last night there were hundreds of people waiting for the building to open up at noon for him and I had to fight my way to the door. So relieved, and very, very lucky to be able to adopt this beautiful boy.

(45,850 posts)so glad you got him, and he's going to be a big boy too years ago my parents had a Great Pyrenees/German Shepard mix he was a huge cuddly boy alright but when he stood up on his hind feet he could put his paws on my shoulders and look me in the eye (I'm 5'5"
You mean he's still growing? I'm laughing here because I was completely unaware just how big he'd be, and sort of expecting a medium sized cuddler that would lay on my feet just like my Wolfie used to. Ruben is over 80lbs. already! If he keeps growing he won't even fit on my couch! The volunteers who walk him at the shelter call him their lazy boy, he's just a big teddy bear. But very, very matted ...... it's going to take me a while to get him brushed out nice. My mom has a purebred Saint Bernard that I'm hoping he'll get along with well so they can play in the fields together. Can't wait!
azurnoir
(45,850 posts)depends on what he's mixed with too though, but as far as I know dogs keep growing until they're around 3 and male Pyrenees weigh on average 110-120 pounds, actually I've know 2 Pyrenees/Shepherd mixes Barny my parents dog and a friends dog Woolly also called the puppy that grew and grew and grew, he'll be a good friend dog for a Saint Bernard

(20,582 posts)All the more to love, I guess. Nobody in my family knows I got him yet, they thought I was looking for a little dog. It's going to be fun introducing him
azurnoir
(45,850 posts)if his coat is matted perhaps Omega 3 fish oil will help, I've found if nothing else my dog seems to suffer less from dry itchy skin with it added to her diet
and I haven't asked what's he mixed with?
polly7
(20,582 posts)They aren't sure at the shelter what he's crossed with, it almost looks to me like possibly a bit of German Shepherd? Though he's still got the smaller ears so, that's just a wild guess. I looked closely at his toes and there's no webbing there at all - and he's got the hind end of an elephant!, but that probably the Pyrenees? The more I read up on them the more I think he's going to be just a lot of fun to be around. He actually learned to shake a paw within minutes in the meeting room but then flopped down again to get his belly scratched. It makes me sad to think some family may be missing a pet, as he was found wondering alone in the cold on a stretch of highway with no houses nearby but the Humane Society has a slot once or twice a week on the news giving their number for lost and founds, so hopefully they'd have known to call in.

Walk away
(9,494 posts)He enjoyed being outside ALL DAY in the winter no matter how cold it was. He would have been happy to spend the night but his family wanted an indoor dog. In the summer he spent most of his time in front of his own air-conditioner. He was friendly with every one and thing. The coolest Pyrenees trait is, just like Boarder Terriers, they walk your perimeter. You have to show them the boundaries of your property by walking with them around a few times. After that they just walk it all day. It's their job and they love it.
polly7
(20,582 posts)My Wolfie did that, too but I never knew what breed he was. I don't have an air-conditioner but may have to get a small one or maybe just a really good fan. They told me at the shelter he's an escape artist and doesn't like being penned so it looks like I'll be spending a lot of time outside, which is fine with me! It's going to be fun getting to know his personality, I think he's going to be a big goofball and can't wait to get him home.
gorgeous . I hope everything goes through fast! I can't wait to see pictures of him once you get him home!

(39,961 posts)I hope he's yours forever. It's wonderful when a pet claims us. I got claimed by a cat that suddenly one day decided to jump in my lap because she was so painfully thin I kept feeding her. She's well fed now, and I couldn't imagine a day without her in it.

(20,582 posts)I love him so much. He had a rough first few days because he was wearing a cone d/t his recent surgery and bumped into absolutely everything, but I couldn't have asked for a friendlier, more comical, endearing dog. He even likes my cat, which is a huge bonus. Here are some pictures, but I swear, he's the hardest dog in the world to get pictures of. When he's still and I'm nearby, somehow it's belly-rub time ... and I mean every time. Sometimes I think my Wolfie pointed me to the perfect companion. It's almost eerie how alike they are. Anyway ........ here's Obie!:

I wish you many happy years together!
he is gorgeous! Reminds me of a dog that
I had, a mix of a German Shepherd, Lab
and they said prob a Collie.. Was a wonderful dog whatever she was.
I'm so happy you were able to adopt him
I think I'm really lucky. He's such a good dog already. I wonder about him maybe getting a bit over-protective though. The little kids at the ball tournament were climbing all over him and hugging him much of the day ... then a little dog showed up and snapped at one of them when he went to pet him/her and Obie started growling instantly and tried to go after him, but my friend had him short on his leash and took him home. He's going to need a lot more exposure to all sorts of things. The only drawback to adopting from a shelter is that they knew literally nothing about him.

(20,582 posts)We played ball all day so I took him down with me. Little tiny kids were cuddling up to him, feeding him all sorts of things, leading him around and playing fetch with him. I had no clue how he'd behave with them but after the first few pulled his ears a bit and stuck their fingers in his mouth he proved he absolutely loves the attention of small humans! He got more hugs today than I'm sure he's ever had before and didn't mind a bit, so one big hurdle's been passed. He pulls hard on the leash for me when walking though and is so strong it's hard on the arm and shoulder - and everything else! to hold him, so I've ordered one of those humane head halter things. I don't think he's ever been led. Really pleasantly surprised with how he behaved at the ball games ........ he's totally worn out now and zonked out dead to the world.
