What's for Dinner, Sun., July 26, 2020

The RG is doing steak on the grill!

I guess it took nearly 100 degree temps to shake him out of stews in the oven, but whatever.

The steak has a grilled nectarine on top. He tells me in Italy, they do that to replace the dryness that a steak or other piece of meat will get from grilling. He says the juices trickle down into the steak.

In addition, he's grilling thinly sliced zucchini, onions, and sliced potatoes for a side dish.

Dessert I haven't figured out yet.

and a slice of pizza left over from last night.

I was thinking of making a crumble. Would plum and blueberry go well together in that endeavor? (There was a big bag of plums in the produce box this week. Do I have to peel them?)

and never cook above medium rare. I know people don't like red, but oh so freaking good.

Never cook directly over extremely hot coals either, indirect or coals that have peaked (wait for the white ash to encompass the coals completely) is best so you don't get flare-ups and burn the steak.

I'm sure it will be fine, I'm just a steak grilling purist and that is what pappy taught me.

in your store? My favorite fruit since childhood is the small dark purple plums and have not seen any in our stores for a while. Grocer always knows what I'm talking about but just says they can't get them. Plenty of the bigger red and purple ones.

What you describe is what he said, only for nectarines. Said it was named something like "sestini?" They are a small nectarine. But no, I haven't seen the little plums either.

450 F for about 20 minutes...took out when it was 145 F The spices (Thyme, cinnamon, allspice, sugar, nutmeg, chili, cumin, salt and pepper)made it taste really good...and it was juicy...made rice and beans also and we had lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, fresh salsa and pineapple...and corn tacos if anyone wanted them. I had coffee and a chocolate peppermint bar.for dessert..the elevation bars you buy at Aldi's are gluten free and quite good.
