Related: About this forumEnd of July. 90+ degrees ouside. I made....
soup.
My sister had given me a piece of smoked pork that she had done on the grill, and also (from a different meal) a container of braising liquid from some ribs she made. Both were in my freezer, and were removed yesterday to make room for new inventory (namely, ham slices from a big ham we cut up).
So, we boiled the ham bone for stock, added the rib braising liquid, onions, carrots, chopped kale (from this week's produce box), some orzo, some diced tomatoes, and the cut-up smoked pork. I didn't have any celery.
(Mom would have loved this. It's just what she would have done. (Miss you, Mom.))
Oh heck... I don't care how hot it is outside. I'm going to enjoy it. May bring some to my sister.

(57,073 posts)I made chili yesterday- a huge pot. Yup, it is really hot here, too.
I've been in ham mode lately, too. Big hams are outrageousely expensive ($4+/lb!) So I get ham slices & presciced ham chunks from Aldi.
Thinking ham steak with candied sweet potatoes for dinner...looking forward to fall!
