There's not a lot of things I won't eat in this world...
...but Nutella is very high on that short list.
Bleccchh, ick, ptuey!
It can't decide what it wants to be!! It's not chocolate, it's not peanut butter, sure as hell doesn't taste like hazelnuts....it's not an identifiable flavor associated with any foodstuffs from this planet. Tried it, hated it, didn't want to "get used to it".
But, Mr PNWest asked me the other day what's the deal with Nutella? Isn't that like Vegemite? I said no, it's very different from that, but I am not a fan.
I think there's a chance he might like it though, so I'm going to buy some for him to try.
So, Nutella-lovers, what are some classic ways to try it for the first time? I'm not about to go making crepes or some other fancy dessert to put it on, just want him to try it as it was originally intended. How do YOU usually enjoy it? Just on plain bread? or toast? something else?
EDIT: Well, after all of these great suggestions, my little local grocery store was completely sold out today. Experiment will have to wait til next month...I've decided I'll have us BOTH try three ways: on crepes with bananas, on toast, and with apple slices. If i like it, might swirl some through ice cream some time.

(51,565 posts)on a cupcake or maybe between the two layers of a cake, but not the overall icing. You don't want too much...too sweet. I like chocolate/hazelnut gelato and mixing a little Nutella into vanilla ice cream is tasty.

(23,295 posts)My kiddo will put a smear of it on a flour tortilla and top it with sliced banana or apple...roll it up and heat it on the cast iron flat top for an after school snack. Sometimes he will plop some of it in a ramekin and dip apples, orange slices or strawberries in it. I mad brownies with it recently...Im not gonna lie...they were amazing.

(5,477 posts)I've been using the Kodiak Cakes flapjack mix, and for the 2 of us I will use 1 cup of mix, 1 cup of water, 1 egg, 1 heaping tablespoon of Nutella (we use the Costco/Kirkland equivalent), and a dash of Penzey's Vietnamese cinnamon (this has a flavor that is amazing! A little hot, spicy, but with a LOT of cinnamon flavor). Maybe a ¼ cup of chocolate chips, if I'm in the mood.
The pancakes have a nice hazel/chocolate flavor, with the spicy background. We like to serve them with an over-easy egg on top; sounds a little weird, but it somehow really works.

(11,686 posts)However, Costco has a hazelnut chocolate spread that resembles Nutella. It tastes more like hazelnut and is not as sweet. I like it better but I never saw it again. I ate that the same way. Call it a comfort thing.
