What's for Dinner, Mon., Memorial Day, May 25, 2020

We're have grilled sausages with sauce the RG made. It's tomato based and has lots of vegetables in it, but they're pureed. Cheese balls, baked, on the side.

He also made a chopped vegetable salad (pic below). It has carrots, potatoes, celery and cannellini in it. Using my fresh peas, he made a sauce to go over the top. Here are some pics:

In the second one, the sauce was actually not made from the peas--it was made from the pea shells. We spoon the sauce over the salad.

For dessert tonight, I made cream cheese swirl brownies with walnuts. Milk with my brownies!

Did you C & B'ers miss me last night? I fell asleep. It's really hard work, putting in all these gardens, and I just collapsed in my chair when I got in. So sorry to have missed posting the thread.

I was going to make that yesterday afternoon, but my ac quit and it was too warm to cook. So I just had some leftovers.

I wondered what happened, I always see the daily thread even when I'm not making anything that day.

Made a rib rub which was on for several hours. Then into the Instant Pot. Then I'll pour some bbq sauce on them and broil for a bit. They're pretty good, and May weather in Iowa is so iffy - if we'd planned to grill outside, it would surely have rained. The potato salad took awhile to make - lots of eggs to peel and celery, onions and pickles to chop, as well as cutting up the potatoes. My son in the Army said he wished he could have some, I told him his older brother would eat his portion

I defrosted some leftover Easter ham earlier this week, promptly forgot about it, and now need to use it up before it goes bad.

cooked "pot roast style" in the slow cooker w/ potatoes, carrots, onions, green beans and corn.

(I have a cute story about blade steak. I don't think I ever had one before a couple of weeks ago. Al picked them out at the store thinking we'd throw them on the grill. When I got home I looked up how to cook them, and unless they're very thin and marinated in something w/ some acid, the grill is a no-no. Braising was the way to go. So I made them like I'm making them tonight. When I opened up the crock pot and started taking the meal out, I said to Al, "I wonder if I have to cut these on the bias, you know--against the grain, for them to be tender." Hell no, you don't have to cut them against the grain! You don't have to cut them at all! They fall off the fork! LOL)

I didn't get around to making dessert.

I wasn't around yesterday either, but I don't have a good reason.

They've been marinating in teriyaki sauce. I'm going to flash grill them so they're black-and-blue.

=====>ETA: I forgot that the Landlady(!) is making her signature wasabi sauce. It has secret ingredients that she won't share with me.

We cut up a large sweet potato into long, fat strands and I'm going to grill them, too.

Our salad will be Romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onion, slices of green pepper and slices of stuffed olives. Real Caesar dressing with anchovies.

Dark chocolate and red wine for dessert.

and social distanced because my daughter -in -law is pregnant! I am going to be a Grandma...so excited. The kids wanted brunch so I made scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, Cheesy potatoes, white gravy (sausage gravy...the kids call it that) biscuits, cinnamon buns and fruit salad. We had Mimosas and orange juice with sparkling water for the mom to be.

The baby is due on my great nephews birthday, Dec. 22 2020...my only sister's grandchild. In our family in every generation cousins share birthdays. Everything was gluten free except for Pillsbury biscuits for those who eat gluten...I can't bake with flour if it gets in my nose or throat I could end up in the hospital. My husband cooked those. It has taken me a while but my gluten free baking is improving. I don't think we will have dinner...brunch was dinner...maybe some fruit. I am currently in a food coma.
