4. I'd try recipes using the top side of the tin, myself.

If a person wants tart cups, they can made on the other side, too. I wouldn't go for one that calls for putting it upsidedown. But that's just me, some are adventurous.

Big on using cookie sheets under baking pans, too. Haven't cleaned an oven in years, too much work, so I make a point of avoiding that.

6. I think the upside-down idea is for molding warm cookies fresh from the oven.

Tuiles and brandysnaps, I know, are baked flat, then molded when they first come out of the oven, while they're still pliable. Of course, I could be wrong about those cookies in the post you were referring to.

Great ideas for muffin pans! Except the kale thing. Bleh. But the apple cider donuts and the frittatas looked really good. And the meatloaf and mashed potato idea was intriguing... not as intriguing, though, as the question of how the heck they got mashed potatoes that were snow white. I don't think I've ever seen that.

5. The "soup" one was a little puzzling

since it showed portions of soup in a muffin tin.

Does one decant it into a trough? Seat one's guests around it on a TV tray with spoons?

(Yeah, I know you're supposed to freeze soup cubes for later nuking, but it's more fun to speculate on the odd presentation)

8. I made Thanksgiving dinner cupcakes once using leftovers

after getting the idea from this 'cake' recipe:

(I didn't top them with marshmallows -- I used the mashed potatoes as the "frosting" and topped with a little cranberry sauce right before serving.)

11. Another thing you can do with upside down muffin tins

Warm tortillas to make them pliable, then stuff in between the protruding cups to make taco shells instead of buying those ridiculously expensive special pans.
