I highly recommend this 7 part New Zealand based series by the great Jane Campion.
It's ostensibly a mystery placed in rural New Zealand about a young detective looking for a missing 12 year old girl, but it's Campion so it's as much about sex and how men and women relate both to each other and to members of their own gender, as anything else.
Elizabeth Moss of Mad Men stars as the detective and she's terrific; stumbling across her own past as searches for the girl.
the scenery is breathtaking, the acting is generally of a high caliber (though Holly Hunter's shaman/guru figure is bit much) and there's a mysterious (OK, admittedly it's a mystery) moody quality that wafts through all 7 episodes.

(2,351 posts)I have all 7 of the series recorded, but haven't seen much yet. I can't seem to really get into it. But now that you explained a bit, I'll watch. (I agree already about HH.)

(9,696 posts)Acting and scenery are outstanding. But at least once in each episode, something has happened that just makes no sense. Small details, like how a suspect the detective is questing is able to text her. They've never met before, how does he have her number? And the woman who had the pet monkey...no spoilers, but really?
It's worth watching for the tattoos alone.
