Why does Hulu streaming suck so much.
Anyone else have this problem?
I have Hulu plus. I have a Vizio Smart tv that is hard-wired to my router (e.g. NOT using wi-fi). I was watching an episode of The Following last night on Hulu and it was choppy. Ridiculously so. It would halt every other second or so. Thought it must be something on my end. Went to Netflix and watched a whole movie without a hitch. Now, I know Netflix uses Silverlight which is much better for streaming media, but what the hell, Hulu?

(146,218 posts)I think it's the commercials that screw it up. I had it primarily for the Daily Show and Colbert report. It might get through 3 or 4 minutes, then stall to buffer for another 5. Ridiculous. I don't miss it at all.

(2,815 posts)is so superior to Huluplus in every way. Especially when you don't finish an episode. Netflix lets you choose to start from the beginning or continue where you left off every time.
Huluplus only asks that when you first connect to Huluplus for an episode that you didn't finish. I hate when I go to watch a new episode that someone else in my family has already watched and the episode starts at the end of the episode.
The shows that I have Queued up on Huluplus seem to disappear and reappear for some reason.
The closed captioning is larger on Netflix. The search buttons are also larger on Netflix.
Huluplus shows the censored syndicated episodes of "Dream On" and not the unedited HBO version....yuck!
I seem to have more issues with using my wireless Roku for Huluplus than if I use the wired Wii for it but I don't know if that is a Roku problem or a Huluplus issue of not working that great with different systems.
I guess Huluplus works better streaming on the computer, but I don't really want to watch TV on the computer.

(22,340 posts)my plan is to take the laptop that my son broke the screen on (16-year-olds, what are you going to do?) and hook it up to the TV so I can stream Hulu through that (some of the shows I watch are only available on PC) as well as other stuff (or just use it like a big monitor for grading papers!).

(762 posts)are that it is not user-friendly at all and they repeat the same asinine commercial over and over.

(4,542 posts)I'd rather pay for Netflix. The quality of Hulu is awful, especially when compared to Netflix.

(22,340 posts)I've been trying to be "cableless" and Hulu gives me the option to watch the shows I want (with a couple exceptions) without having to pay for cable.

(59,305 posts)I had Hulu for like 2 hours, and didn't like it. I was hoping they would have Deadliest Catch, and SOA on their service but they don't(Deadliest Catch not at all, and SOA online only). Netflix was a lot more user friendly. I did however abuse Hulu's movie trailer option, I wish netflix would have an option to watch movie trailers(movies that are soon to be released to theaters).
