Children who eat the same food as their parents have healthier diets, according to a new study.
The University of Edinburgh research looked at the family meal habits of more than 2000 five-year-olds.
It also found that an "unpleasant atmosphere" during mealtimes could negatively affect a child's diet.
The report called for more to be done to help parents establish good eating habits in children's early years.

(110,900 posts)My mother thought it was a better occasional treat than sugary soda pop and she was right. I'd get maybe two thirds of a juice glass of it at a cookout.
I didn't discover it would get me drunk until I was 13. I was over it by 15.
I'd say early introduction served me pretty well.
When alcohol started triggering migraines, the only thing I regretted was not being able to drink a cold beer on a hot day.

(10,103 posts)The child is healthy, slender, and bright.....how much of that is due to the diet, I have no idea, but it seems to be working. She also will eat all kinds of things, including lime and dill pickles. She's 14 months old.

(11,785 posts)Our family rule has always been that we asked our daughter to try a bite. If she truly hated whatever we were eating that night, we'd make her something we knew she'd like... only after everyone else had finished eating. Most of the time, she chose to eat what we'd served rather than wait.
