misogyny means hatred of women. what is the word that means love of women?

was thinking about that in reading about the latest woman-hating jerk--a NH legislator who referred to women as "vagina's" (complete with apostrophe).

my brain is not working tonight, so I just cannot think what that word is. need some help here.

thanks in advance.

went to look them both up in wiki--the article on misogyny was quite lengthy. the entry on philogyny was not even a paragraph. that says so much about the status of women in the world.

...which may be appropriate, depending on your intended use of the word 'love' - "gynephilia describes the sexual attraction to women or femininity", as contrasted with androphilia and ambiphilia.

But, if we pursue the words too far, there is a discontinuity. We find the corresponding female/male terms: misogyny/misandry, philogyny/philandry, gynephilia/androphila, ... but then there's philander:

1. To carry on a sexual affair, especially an extramarital affair, with a woman one cannot or does not intend to marry. Used of a man.
2.To engage in many love affairs, especially with a frivolous or casual attitude. Used of a man.

So, where're the words philgynerer or philgyner?? or whatever they would be syntactically? Not anywhere as far as I can tell!! So, women can't have affairs with men they don't intended to marry? How can there ever be equality of the sexes when our language doesn't support the necessary concepts.

Sorry, Niyad. Rambling on, here. I think you got the answer you were looking for long ago. Bye.

Shouldn't there be some acknowledgement within the definitions that these linguistic markers (misanthropes, misogyny and misandry) include the notion that strong emotional reactions and beliefs held by misogynysts and misandrists are illogical, uncontrolled emotionally charged phobias- toxic and destructive to society and liberty. Abusing trust is something both genders are guilty of; those abuses are the fault of the extremists among us. Legitimate social commentary and critique requires a modicum of humility about the abuses and dishonesty exhibited by almost all extremists. Having courage means accepting the truth about individuals and thier ulterior motives or ends, even the ones from your own camp or "movement". This level of honesty is not possible as long as discussions about simple disagreements are continually hijacked by the shrill voices of extremism and gender animus.

country (and these are just the ones from THIS YEAR)

694 Provisions Affecting Abortion and Family Planning Introduced this Year

694 provisions affecting abortion and family planning access have been introduced in state legislatures since the beginning of 2013.

According to a first quarter report by the Guttmacher Institute, these 694 provisions were introduced in the first three months of the new year. In addition, 93 provisions have already been approved by at least one legislative body in their state. Approximately 47% of the provisions that have been introduced seek to restrict abortion access.

Guttmacher writes in the report, "During the first three months of 2013, legislators in 14 states introduced provisions seeking to ban abortion prior to viability...Legislators in 10 states have introduced proposals that would ban all, or nearly all, abortions. In eight states (AL, IA, MS, ND, OK, SC, VA and WA), legislators have proposed defining 'personhood' as beginning at conception; if adopted, these measures would ban most, if not all, abortions." Lawmakers in eight states (AL, AR, IA, IN, MO, MS, NC and TX) have introduced legislation that would severely restrict access to medical abortions, or abortion by pill.

2012 saw the second highest number of anti-choice provisions enacted in a year on record. The highest was in 2011 with 93 provisions restricting abortion access enacted. However, these totals reflect provisions enacted during a calendar year, not legislative session. When considering the 2011-2012 legislative session, 136 anti-choice provisions were enacted.

remind me again how many men and boys are being gang-raped and the pictures of those rapes spread everywhere.

remind me again how many songs are written talking about assaulting men.

remind me again how many men are assaulted or raped by women.

then we can talk about the "shrill voices" (and remind me how many men are accused of being "shrill&quot of the extremists, as though they were equal.
