I worked back stage on a La Cage production back in the nineties at our local theatre. When that had folded in London's west end, largely due to the original HIV scares here in London, a local outfit bought all of the costumes and has since made a good living renting them out to amdram musical societies across the UK.

We've got 3 local musical societies generally manned by a single stage crew. It was more like a hobby helping out in that way in those days. That show had a great cast with many actors just helping out who were in fact some of the original London professional cast. Sadly the first person I ever heard of dying from aids was one of them.

What has always stuck in my mind on that production was that the beautiful costumes looked real rubbish in daylight - they only came to life when stage lit. Quite clever really.

Rob and I always loved Shirley Bassey. He would have enjoyed this post tremendously. I certainly did.
