A friend of mine, Peterson Toscano is coming to Cleveland on May 7 and Akron on May 6.
Peterson grew up in a Pentecostal Church and is now a Quaker, after spending years and a small fortune trying to de-gay himself. Since that time he has worked to undo the damage of gay reparative therapy in his own life, and he also has raised public awareness about the harm that comes from seeking to suppress and change one’s sexuality and gender differences. His work on gender variance and the Bible has garnered much attention and praise from Bible scholars, and he presents at seminaries and colleges as well as theaters.
One of the gay reparative programs Peterson was in was the Love in Action, and he is an associate producer (and appeared in) This is What Love in Action Looks Like, a documentary arising out of the forced participation in the teen program Refuge of a 16 year old named Zach. His MySpace postings as he was forced into the program led to protests outside the facility daily, and garnered international attention.
