U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon rejected on Wednesday remarks by a U.N. rights investigator, who suggested the Boston bombings were a response to U.S. foreign policy, and warned U.N. envoys that their public comments could undermine the world bodys credibility.
Richard Falk, U.N. special rapporteur for human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, wrote on his blog on Sunday that the American global domination project is bound to generate all kinds of resistance in the post-colonial world.
U.S. officials say ethnic Chechen brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, planted and detonated two pressure-cooker bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, killing three people and injuring 264. Ten people lost limbs.

On the other hand "U.N. special rapporteur" has to be the coolest title on the planet.

(2,927 posts)... our party ... in which Jews have been integral in leading over the decades (including my parents and grandparents) ... is choosing to reject them in favour of a larger demographic (at least some of the more radical factions of our party).
We know why, but it can't be spoken of. After all, they have "Jewish friends".

Amazing for its viciousness and rank dishonesty is the campaign waged against UN special rapporteur for human rights in occupied Palestine Richard Falk for making some pretty straightforward blowback points in the aftermath of the Boston terrorist attack. Falks piece is here; written before the perpetrators were discovered, it notes chiefly the relative calm compared to 9/11, and the greater reflectiveness of many of the callers to PBS and other venues, who noted (as have several other commentators) that many innocents are also victims of American violence. Falk also laments what he perceives as Obamas apparent obeisance to Israel and fears a war with Iran. Falk is a lucid and often deep thinker, but this was not an unusual piece.

(41,203 posts)Falk passes as a progressive with some, because of his anti-war views; but he is not fundamentally progressive at all. He has far more in common with the xenophobic-isolationist variety of right-wingers (who are frequently anti-Semitic, of course).
