The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, whose Freedom and Justice Party is the most powerful in Egypt and is allied with President Mohamed Morsi, posted a message from its official Twitter feed late Tuesday that linked approvingly to a video that suggests Jews control the U.S. media. The tweet appeared to be a dig at Jon Stewart, the host of the Daily Show, who recently aired a searing segment criticizing Morsi for his governments imprisonment of a popular TV host and political satirist named Bassem Youssef.
The Arabic-language video, a clip from the Islamist-friendly TV network al-Jazeera Arabic, is actually from 2010. It focuses on a spat between Stewart, who is Jewish, and former CNN host Rick Sanchez. Sanchez was fired for alleging that Jews control the media and for criticizing Stewart, calling him bigoted and suggesting that, as a Jew, Stewart does not belong to an authentic minority group. The al-Jazeera Arabic segment suggests that American media have a double standard in which Jews are afforded special privileges and their critics silenced. It also backs Sanchezs insinuation that Jews control the media and suggests that they enforce this double standard.

Review all of the nations involved in the all-glorious 'Arab Spring' and see how it is going.
We were de-stabilizing the whole of North Africa and we fucked it up, totally.

(25,699 posts)Ours didn't settle out until over a decade after we kicked it off, after all. And then there's the French, and the Russians, neither of whom could settle for just one revolution...
Expecting Egypt to go from military autocracy to libertine western-style democracy in under three years is fantasy, especially when many of the people with such expectations are from a nation that took a a century to figure out slavery was a bad thing... and another hundred to figure out that oppressing the descendants of those slaves was also bad.

I'm sure any day now the Muslim brotherhood will shed their mysoginist ,antisemitic, homophobic, racist attitude and become a beacon of human rights.

(25,699 posts)But I'm also pretty sure the people of Egypt will get their fill and shed the Muslim Brotherhood eventually.
I'm also pretty sure that no matter what, you're going to hate the people of Egypt, anyway.

(25,699 posts)'Cause I'm talking about Egyptians and how it's silly to expect a revolution to bear fruit in so short a time, and you come off with a snarkassed "just cut them some slack, huh?"
And which ethnic groups do I hate exactly, David? I mean... besides the Dutch. Fuck wooden shoes and their funky language. Monsen de helte keel onder borger skoeder huden... no wonder they're called the low country.

I spoke of the people of Egypt and how their revolution isn't going ot be an overnight thing. Your response was a clearly sarcastic "cut them some slack, huh?" and then a nonsense tirade about how the Muslim Brotherhood will become sunshine and daffodils, which you - idiotically - tried to put in my mouth.
It's clear that you do not believe that the people of Egypt deserve any slack at all. Why is that, if it's not hostility towards them?

and apparently they've never heard of Ted Turner or Rupert Murdock, they're bigoted fools

(9,688 posts)which is, like, everything - the destiny of the human race, according to some of the deepest and strangest antisemitic plot lines - if I were a Jew I'd be secretly pleased. These paranoiacs think soincredibly highly of the innate intelligence and power of the Jewish people, that as a people Jews can accomplish such things, and without the majority of the rest of world even having a clue. In a world of 7 billion people and 20 or 30 million Jews. whew!
There's going to be total cognitive dissonance in such a paranoid view, of course - as is seen esp. in such rude antisemitic statements that Jews are the descendants of apes and pigs, etc. But I think that dissonance is just a reaction after the unreal esteem.
I wonder, is there much of a record of antisemitic conspiracy theories originating in the far east, where the Abrahamic religions haven't taken such firm root?

(14,851 posts)These are not benign "paranoid theories" , they have been shown in history to be deadly to massive amounts of people amongst the Hebrew tribes.
