Workers threaten strike at Exxon's largest US refinery

>>>
HOUSTON: Workers have threatened to strike in June at Exxon Mobil Corp.'s largest US refinery if the company refuses to accept an agreement on safety issues, the leader of the local union said on Monday.

Exxon has also threatened to lock out workers at the 560,500 barrel per day (bpd) Baytown, Texas, refinery in June, according to the union.

Exxon has already agreed to the wage proposals of a national contract adopted by US oil refinery workers represented by the United Steelworkers union (USW), said Ricky Brooks, president of the local USW union in Baytown, Texas, known as 13-2001, where Exxon's refinery, the nation's second largest, dominates the skyline.

But the energy giant has opposed a contract proposal for a process safety representative to be jointly appointed by the union and refinery managers in Baytown, Brooks said.
