Trump Doesn't Give A Damn About Workers
Trump and Radical Republicans like South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds think the lives of the immigrants who work in meatpacking plants are worth less than the lives of pigs in a slaughterhouse.
Rounds, who asked Trump to intervene to keep meatpacking plants open, cited farmers killing pigs rather than sending them to meat processing plants, to justify sending immigrants and other meatpacking workers back to their jobswhere many will get sick and some will die.
They will be euthanizing killing over a million head of hogs a month, very, very shortly, beginning here in the next one to two weeks, Rounds, who was previously governor of South Dakota, said Sunday. Theres no way we can stop that until we start opening up these production facilities again.
As recently as 2015, almost 30% of meat and poultry workers in our country werent citizens, according to a GAO report. Companies like Smithfield Foods and Tyson were hiring more immigrants and undocumented workers because they were less likely to unionize. A Smithfield slaughterhouse in Tar Heel, N.C., took 15 years to unionize.
Hispanic people are sort of modern slaves of this country, said poultry worker Carlos Ramos.

(6,427 posts)Its clear with every rancid action Trump and his plunderous cult takes. As usual, while conning workers into trying to support him his words are proven to be hollow abject lies. By his wretched deeds we know the true con man. At the same time hes ordering these workers to risk their lives and health he refuses to mandate the plants adopt safety measures for the workers. He could do so, but then it would have resulted in the owners having to spend some of that filthy lucre theyre earning on the backs and bodies And his sycophantic Rethuglican governors threatening the workers with starvation if they refuse to go back to one of these life threatening reservoirs of disease. Once more we see the core principles of the Rethuglicans on display: people are expendable, but profits are sacrosanct. No meat plant or any other business should be permitted to reopen without implementing the OSHA/CDC guidelines to protect workers as they are a menace to their employees and the community in their current disease culturing state.
