Boston Marathon manhunt could cost $1 billion

Boston Marathon manhunt could cost $1 billion

By Jack Minch and Jennifer Swift, For the North Adams Transcript

Saturday April 20, 2013
BOSTON -- The biggest economic impact from Friday's lockdown of Boston and its northern suburbs is yet to come, said Northeastern University economist and professor of public policy Alan Clayton-Matthews.
Dunkin Donuts shops were the only businesses with permission to open in Watertown and residents in the region were urged to stay inside. The region ground to a near-halt Friday in response to the search for the suspected Boston Marathon co-bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
The city's subway system shut down. The Bruins and Red Sox postponed their games. Restaurants and universities were closed.
It is difficult to tell the value of the economic loss, said Jon B. Hurst, president of Retailers Association of Massachusetts.
"Certainly it is hundreds of millions including retail, restaurants and lost office productivity," he said in an email. "Could exceed a billion."

Not the cost of the police and emergency services? Fuck 'em. Every business can afford to close for a day.

What we can't afford is the loss of lives, and the loss of limbs. What we can't afford is dipshit religeous nutballs running around setting off bombs in the name of their god.

I would hope this "lockdown" will show other potential dipshits to what extent we are willing to go in order o stop them.

as another poster noted, probably mostly lost to businesses. The lost sales of necessities will be made up and offices, factories can run overtime to catch up.

Really? Well, then, stay open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep from bankrupting yourselves!

What a silly and self-serving complaint.

By all means, stay open next time - the killers had some cash, please help yourselves.
