Chile protests: Demonstrators honour first socialist president


On this anniversary, many hope that a new constitution will replace the one written during the dictatorship.

September 11 is a significant date in Chile also, not only the United States.

Protesters in Santiago marked the anniversary of the overthrow of the first socialist president 47 years ago.

Salvador Allende was killed during a US-backed coup.

Al Jazeera's Lucia Newman reports.
